This, 1300 square foot, two bedroom, waterfront bungalow is located in Hope Bay on the shores of Georgian Bay. Hope Bay is centrally located on the Bruce Penisula in between the villages of Wiarton and Lion's Head. All the living area of the cottage is located on one floor. The main living area has the living room on the lake side of the cottage with a large window facing the lake. This living room has a couch, a love seat and two comfortable chairs. A television with satellite and blueray player is also available to keep you entertained on a rainy day. Adjacent to the living room is a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, stove, and microwave. The cottage has a separate dining room with table that seats all of your party comfortably. There is also a great view here of the bay. There are two bedrooms at the cottage. One has a queen size bed with a cot and the other a double. Both bedrooms have ample amount of space and nice sized windows allowing natural light to filter through. The newly renovated bathroom features a claw foot bathtub and a separate shower. There are also laundry facilities provided. On the lakeside of the cottage there is a 150 square foot patio attached to the cottage. There is a table with 6 chairs, 2 Adirondack chairs and a propane BBQ here. The yard is beautifully landscaped with lots of mature trees that provide shade on hot sunny days. The vegetable and herb garden provides fresh produce to compliment your meals. At the waters edge, a separate deck with a table and bench seating provide a serene area to read a book, write or just simply enjoy your morning coffee and take in the breathtaking view. During the day, children will enjoy exploring the natural habitat of the “fish nursery” and be able to enjoy seeing frogs, turtles and mudpuppies. There are also ducks, geese and beavers that swim by for your viewing pleasure. At night, dark skies provide a chance to view different constellations, or witness the Perseid Meteor Shower in August. The naturalized shore has fluctuating water levels from one year to the next. The water gradually goes from shallow to deep. Sandy areas can be located at the north and south end of the property to access good swimming. There is also a public beach about 500 m. away which is also a great spot for kids to play. Hope Bay is a quiet, family friendly community. The campground store has the basic amenities as well canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals for your added convenience and enjoyment. The gravel road that follows the shore around Hope Bay is enjoyed by joggers, walkers and cyclists. Access to the internationally famous Bruce Trail is literally steps from the cottage, so you can walk out the door and hit the trail right away! On top of the Niagara Escarpment there are many amazing views, glacial pot holes, rare ferns, and orchids found only on the Peninsula. Hope Bay’s central location provides easy accessibility to the many attractions of the Bruce Peninsula. It’s just a short drive away from Cape Croker, Sauble Beach, Wiarton, Lion's Head and Tobermory. There's no excuse not to get out and explore this beautiful area!
Attractions and Activities: There are many activities and attractions on the Bruce Peninsula, some local favourites are: hiking or snowshoeing the Bruce Trail, touring on our bicycles, kayaking, going to farmers markets, buying fresh fish from local providers, having a picnic at the Cabot Head Lighthouse, going to Tobermory for a day and having an ice cream cone from the Sweet Shop, going out on the Glass Bottom Boats to explore ship wrecks, hiking on Flowerpot Island, exploring the Grotto at Cypress Lake, attending the Pow Wow at Cape Croker, or Summerfolk Music Festival in Owen Sound, or learning about astronomy from Bayside Astronomy on a Saturday night in Lion’s Head, seeing the local Artist’s Gallery’s and Studios, and finally, just being a part of the Hope Bay community. Other things you need to know. For everyone's convenience the kitchen is well equipped and well stocked with condiments, herbs, spices, tea, fresh coffee, cream, sugar, jams, honey, peanut butter, olive oil, vinegars. We aslo have non perishable food items such as rice and pasta. Please replenish any items that you use up so it’s available for the next guests. The kitchen has a full size fridge and an additional upright freezer. Towels for the bath and for the beach are available as well. Please hang to dry after each use and have them clean at the end of your stay. There are games, and books as well as an assortment of family friendly dvd’s to use. Bedding will be provided, please wash and prepare beds for next guests. Interactions with guests: Fred or Mary Jean are available before and during visits by email or phone to provide information to guests and answer any questions you may have. If you are staying more than 1 week we will need to discuss a time for us to do property maintenance so it’s not an intrusion during your stay. Last note: Water levels do fluctuate in the Great Lakes as a result this impacts the shoreline as well as aquatic life. This may affect what species are seen at our shoreline. 2016 was a great year for experiencing this ecosystem
