This is a classic grey shingled, cozy Madaket cottage that has been the summer home to our family for over 50 years. As the grandparents are no longer able to stay here, and we cannot stay the summer as they once did, we are renting it out, except for the first three weeks of August when we are there. Organically growing over time as many such old-time houses did, it now has 3-1/2 bedrooms (two with double beds, one with a pair of twins and room for a cot in the "flag closet", 1-1/2 baths, full kitchen and laundry facilities, and an outdoor patio and shower. Access to Hither Creek is just down the footpath across the street, and the surf beach is 3/4 mile down the road and bikepath.
The living room features a 39" flat panel TV and an audio system. Cable TV and wifi are included. The living and dining room and original bedroom are all paneled in golden knotty pine, and floors throughout the house are old wide pine boards. The two newer bedrooms are wainscoted in knotty pine, with green and blue color schemes, respectively. The "flag closet", which has its own window on the front of the house, is outfitted as a children's study area, but will accommodate a cot. The two newer bedrooms each contain a double bed, and the original bedroom has a pair of twin beds.
The original bath has been updated with whitewashed knotty pine, and a half bath has been added off the laundry room, which contains a washing machine, gas dryer, laundry sink and workbench. Just outside the back door of the laundry room, next to the rose arbor, is the roofed outdoor shower.
Also outside is a horseshoe shaped shell driveway off of which lead extensive brick paths through the western grounds, leading from the front door of the house back around to a rose arbor and the large circular patio with a table and chairs to seat 8 and a big smoker grill. This patio is also easily accessible outside the French doors in the dining room.+ More
