The property was exactly what I expected. Old home, lots of rooms, small yard, but great for what we needed it for. We showed up a little earlier than expected just to drop stuff off and the lady was a little taken aback. She wasn't finished cleaning which was no big deal to us. The only thing that was odd for us was the next day, when we are slee... Read More

I ask people to strip the beds they've used and leave the linens in the bathroom as I see no point to washing linens to 8 possible beds if only 1 has been used. Most people leave the place so tidy, I can't determine which bed[s] have been used.

5 Bedroom House on the Ocean

First it's a stretch to say that this house is on the ocean ,though it is nearby.Rustic, but also dilapidated .Living room ceiling paper in shreds.Saw mice twice.Bathroom, particularly the tub and shower need serious attention.Should have been a box of soda in the fridge to eliminate odours Lots of clean dishes.Rugs had been vacuumed, bed was comfor... The owner left the following response...

This property runs to the high watermark of the shore on Merigomish Harbour, in the Northumberland Strait; part of the Atlantic ocean. The ocean is not visible from the house due to a rise in land between the house and shore. The shore is shallow and not sandy. It's about 1/2k walk to the shore, possibly driveable in dry weather on a very rough farm road. Roys Gut, a tidal waterway, from this property to the ocean is visible from within the house and accessible for canoeing or kayaking from the property. There is not a landing; put in off the bridge abutment. It is seen in the pics with this ad - aerial view shows part of it meandering thru neighboring properties on it's way to the Harbour. It's about a 1 hour leisurely paddle from house to shore, best done at mid tide to get under the little bridges and not get stuck in mud on lowest tides. The house is definitely delapidated. We like it that way and hope to price it accordingly. It's used 4-8 weeks of the year. This place will and does suit some people very well, for others it's a total no go, hence I often ask questions nearly to the point of interrogation because I definitely do not want unhappy guests. I hope people interested in staying here will ask all the questions possible to determine if this is a suitable vacation spot for them. Those with allergies or smell sensitivity will not likely enjoy it. It's not particularly musty but a 200 year old building doesn't have the 'new car smell'. This is a dated old lady past her prime, lots of wrinkles and nicks, but still standing strong. The bathroom is awful cosmetically, but does it's job with hot and cold running water in the shower/tub and sink and a flush toilet. Please alert me to any mice! They are an ongoing problem in any rural property but we strive to eliminate them promptly.
