River's Nest is an newly restored 1930's cabin in historic Rio Nido near the Russian River. It is retro, stylish, rustic, family ready and fab for your vacation in the woods. 10 minute walk to restaurant and River. 2 minutes drive into Gurneville.
Redwood trees in the canyon set the background for River's Nest. Originally little more than three rooms and an outdoor privy, it was summer quarters to SF fireman, Ed Burke and family. We are only the third owners. In 2013 we began a bottom up renovation, saving and restoring as many details as possible.
Now the home has hardwood floors, pine ceilings and a 50's inspired kitchen. Beds are cozy with extra pillows and high thread count sheets. We have one king, three queen and two twin beds. The wood stove heats the whole place. Sunlight pours in through multiple sky lights during the day and inside at night many different moods can be set with the lights. The cabin is warm, cozy and full of style. Form and function merge into a wonderful getaway spot that easily hosts you and your people.
Our home is still a work in progress and the backyard is still without a concrete slab, but there is a gas BBQ and amazing trees to look up at. The backyard is fenced and gated, so is a nice place to be outside. We hope to have it be unbelievable in the next year when we complete our construction projects!
You can use River's Nest as a base to visit local sites or just to truly unplug and connect with nature, yourself and your loved ones.
When you stay with us you have access to the entire property. House, parking, deck, back yard. There are spices and condiments in the refrigerator. Use what you need and replace if you use the last bit of something. There is a drip coffee maker, french press coffee maker and a tea pot. Bring your coffee beans and use the grinder. We have lots of glasses, wine glasses, serving dishes and utensils. The refrigerator/ freezer is full size and easily accommodates groups of people. A 3 minute drive into downtown Guerneville will take you to the local Safeway store and health-food store.

Rio Nido (which translates to River Nest) is a neighborhood of Guerneville. It sits in a canyon with small hollers in every direction. Most of the cabins were built in the 1930's by San Francisco Firemen and Policeman as summer homes for themselves. It is fun to wander around, and impossible to get lost because you will eventually end up back where you started.
When built, homes here were uninsulated 'glamping' cabins. Right now many homes are being updated to current standards. The neighborhood experienced a period of decline in the 80's and 90's but is in the midst of a resurgence. It is a neighborhood in transition and includes folks of all socioeconomic levels. There is a mix of full time residents and vacationers in the area.
There is limited public transportation to this area. There is a bus stop 10 minutes walk from the house that connects into Santa Rosa. The Santa Rosa International Airport is about 25 minutes drive from here. This home is 20 minutes drive off of Highway 101 at the north end of Santa Rosa.
If you bring a bike, it's a fun way to explore the area.
