The 'Hobbit Hut' is one of the most unique architectural curiosities of the valley: an old adobe Potato Cellar with garden rooftop. Transformed into a modern studio while preserving original organic details, it guarantees an unforgettable experience.
We ask that guests consider the Hobbit Hut for its one-of-a-kind experience. Everything is adobe; the walls are dirt, the floor is dirt, the roof is dirt. The fireplace is the main source of heat in the wintertime and on cool nights. We will get the fire going in advance of your arrival. If you want something that's hermetically sealed, please choose our Cabin rental instead. The Hobbit Hut (circa 1900) is located on one of the first Hispanic settlements in the San Luis Valley next to the adobe hacienda built by Luis Montoya in 1858. The Hut is in fact an old adobe double-walled Potato Cellar, a feature of historical architecture specific to the San Luis Valley, and a great example of organic and ecological construction. Ours has been transformed into a beautiful studio that has all the modern amenities while preserving the amazing architectural details. There is a full size bed and a shepherd's bunk bed in the living room, a fold out couch in the music room, a claw foot tub in the bathroom, and kitchen with basic appliances.+ More
