Need to get out of Toronto for a while and enjoy life in a new city? Luckily for you, there are plenty of cool city breaks only a quick two-hour drive away from Toronto! For a weekend activity or a day trip, you can visit a variety of interesting cities. Whether you live in Toronto or are just visiting, be sure to check out a new city or two.
Niagara Falls. The most popular place for Toronto residents to take a city break is Niagara Falls. Here, you can enjoy one of Ontario’s most famous natural wonders while basking in the neon of the city scene. With great nightlife, fun daytime activities and plenty of things to do from kitschy museums to beautiful walking paths, Niagara is an awesome place for a day or weekend trip. Plus, you can take a quick dip into the United States while you’re at it!
Stratford. May through October is the high season for tourism in Stratford. This historic city still has many buildings from its 19th Century founding era, making it a charming city to explore. The downtown area is particularly enjoyably, as it is packed with shops, dining and a lauded theatre scene. Be sure to catch a play while you’re there!
London. Like its European eponym in the United Kingdom, Ontario’s London is built on the banks of a river named the Thames. London is filled with interesting museums, such as the Fanshawe Pioneer Village, Banting House and London Regional Children’s Museum. The area surrounding London is beautiful, so you can also get out of the city for a bit and enjoy the great outdoors.
Hamilton. Hamilton, Ontario is full of interesting things to see and do. Dundurn Castle, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and the Art Gallery of Hamilton are all popular activities within the city. If you want to do something really wild, head to the African Lion Safari and tour exotic African animals while enjoying the water park.
Buffalo, New York. All you need is a passport, and you can hop across the border to the United States! Head from Toronto to Buffalo, New York through Niagara Falls for an international adventure in an afternoon. Buffalo has plenty of interesting activities to enjoy, from the Buffalo Zoo to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
Brantford. Enjoy the nightlife of Brantford with a quick trip for a day or a weekend. The OLG Casino is the most popular attraction in the city. There are fun things to do during the day as well, including a nostalgic walk through the Personal Computer Museum and a trip to the Brantford Twin Valley Zoo.
Barrie. This Ontario city is a popular tourist destination. If you visit, you can enjoy plenty of fun all year round! Check out Snow Valley’s winter sport area in the winter, Park Place in the summer and MacLaren Art Centre at any time of year.
