The Best Things to do in Edmonton This Summer
May 9, 2016
Summer is almost here and the locals of Edmonton are ready to shake off the remnants of winter. It’s time to party Edmonton-style. Come and enjoy loads of parks, museums and cultural pursuits.
Start your summer adventures in Edmonton with a trip to Fort Edmonton. You will get the feeling that you have just stepped off of a time machine. A blacksmith shop, working hotel, saloon and bakery are all part of a working town that is made up of historic buildings. These buildings were restored and now give visitors a real glimpse into how Edmonton sprouted its roots. Ride the old train and the streetcar. This is a wonderful experience for the whole family to enjoy.
Visit Old Strathcona for a great community vibe. Here you can shop, enjoy the farmers market, have a coffee with friends and enjoy restaurants, art and music festivals.
Ride the streetcar from Old Strathcona into the downtown area. From there you can walk over to the City Market. The streetcar is operated by volunteers. It runs across the high level bridge, giving amazing views of the river. It also goes through a tunnel in the middle of the city. The 1880’s streetcar is well-maintained and a fun way to spend some time on a sunny summer day.
Edmonton is a wonderful place to get out and get some exercise and fresh air. There are plenty of parks and trails to explore. Check out Elk Island National Park for exciting glimpses of geese, bison, and of course, elk. See shorebirds, a Ukrainian house, moose and more. The variety of things to see will keep your eyes trained and your heart pumping.
