Pumpkin spice everything, colourful leaves, bonfires and crisp air—this is autumn at its finest. Do you and your family have big plans this year for the cooler air and great outdoors? Here are five fun things to do in this season of gorgeous transition:

1. Visit an apple orchard. Children love picking fresh apples. The orchards smell delicious. Take home fresh apple cider and a bag of crisp, sweet Gala’s or some tart Granny Smith apples. Most orchards have a little ‘country store’ where they sell all of the different apples, ciders and even apple butters on site. Check out our blog post on the Best Places to go Apple Picking in Ontario, British Columbia and Québec.

2. Pumpkin patches are more than just a field of pumpkins. Usually families can enjoy a corn maize, tractor hay-rides, bounce pillows, and bonfires. Since pumpkin patches are on farms, kids can see the farm animals, too. This is a fun way to spend the day with the whole family.

3. See the beautiful fall colours as the leaves turn from green to gold, red and burgundy. Algonquin Park in Ontario is full of maple trees that reflect their colour onto the lakes. Take a canoe ride with your family to get the full effect of this scenic beauty. Niagara-On-The-Lake will stun the senses with bursting colours against the Niagara backdrop. Stop and enjoy some local wine while you visit. Browse through beautiful cottages for rent near Algonquin Park or book your Niagara-On-The-Lake vacation rental today!

4. Hiking in the cooler temps is energizing. There are so many places to see wildlife and experience autumn at its finest. Try the Bruce Trail for amazing fall foliage. The West Coast Trail passes beaches, rainforest and the Pacific Ocean. Lucky hikers can spot whales migrating along the coast.

5. Take a bike ride. Biking is a popular way to exercise with family and see the fall foliage. Explore one of the top five bike trails in Canada.

Enjoy your fall bucket list!
