Bright and comfortable retreat on a dead end road with easy access to Elmore State Park, Stowe, and Montpelier. This is a great spot for a family vacation with hiking, swimming, biking and many outdoor recreation opportunities. The house was custom built in 2016 and features local cedar beams and red cedar siding, cherry floors, and lots of windows looking out to the surrounding woods and view of Mt. Elmore.
We have one bedroom on the main floor with a queen bed and a full bathroom across the hall. Upstairs is a large bedroom with 2 single beds and a sofa bed, and loft room with a single bed and a full bathroom shared between these two rooms.
There is a front porch with a picnic table, and a back porch also with a table for outdoor eating. There is also an outdoor patio with a fire pit, 4 Adirondack chairs, a swing set, slide, and play area for the kids. We have a few very short trails in the woods that are great for kids to explore on their own while still within site of the house.
Our location is quiet and provides a perfect home base for exploring the beauty and culture of Vermont. We are less than 3 miles from Lake Elmore, Elmore Mountain and Elmore State Park. A hike to the firetower on Elmore Mt (one of 5 firetowers still operational in the state, and the most accessible for hikers of all levels, including kids) will give you a view of the Green Mountains, the Worcester Range, Jay Peak, and on a clear day, even Mt. Washington.
The Elmore General Store, which is home to Fire Tower Pizza, a local favorite, has a deck overlooking the lake where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Morrisville is 10 minutes away and has 2 microbreweries, a distillery, and several good restaurants. From Morrisville, you can jump on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, New England's longest rail trail, and explore the region by bike or on foot (bike rentals are available). Morrisville also offers weekly free outdoor music concerts throughout the summer with food vendors and a farmer's market at the Oxbow Park by the Lamoille River.
Stowe and Montpelier are each less than 30 minutes away and offer many choices in food, outdoor fun, and music, theater and cultural experiences.
Greensboro, Hardwick, Craftsbury and Johnson are other towns within 30 minutes that offer worthwhile stops, including Hill Farmstead Brewery, Pete's Greens Farm Market, Craftsbury Oudooor Center, VT Studio Center, and Dibden Center for the Arts.
We are right on the edge of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, so if you are interested in exploring the most rural parts of the state, this is a great home base. We are about 1 hour from Jay Peak, Burke Mt., Glover (home to Bread and Puppet Theater), and Lake Willoughby. We are also about 1 hour from the Canadian border, if you are interested in seeing the Eastern Townships and Lake Memphremagog.
If you prefer heading out right from your front door, you don't even need to get in a car to explore the Worcester range and the Northeast Highlands.
We offer a beautiful location for a quiet get away. There is high speed internet, but no TV, so bring your own devices for movies. We have board games, cards, and some outdoor games for fun while you are at the house.
We offer the option of stocking the pantry and fridge for you with local eggs, milk, bread, maple syrup and other locally made foods to help get your Vermont vacation off to a good start. We have perennial gardens and a few raised bed vegetable gardens that you are invited to harvest from and enjoy.
We are just a 1/2 mile up the road and can be available to help you find what you need in the area to have a great trip. Accommodations for pets may be available, please inquire to check availability.+ More
