Our two-bedroom summer home, with 1 1/2 baths and an outdoor shower, is in a perfect spot for an active vacation. We are a five-minute walk from our private, neighborhood association beach on Buzzards Bay where the water is much warmer than on the ocean front and is perfect for children, kayaking and hanging out at the beach. Nearby is the lovely Quissett Harbor, a quintessential New England harbor with a white sandy beach on one side and a longer beach on the Buzzard's Bay side, both of which are open to the public.
Our house, on Sippewissett Rd, a meandering shaded road that is favored by bikers, is between the town of Falmouth and Woods Hole, where ferries leave frequently for Martha's Vinyard. There is also a ferry to Nantucket from Hyannis. We are close to an access point for the bike trail which goes from Falmouth to Woods Hole, passing along the edge of Vinyard Sound on the way. And we are a very short walk from Beebe Woods, a 400-acre conservation area with marked trails and several ponds.
For those wanting a less-active stay, our property, about a quarter of an acre, is surrounded by mature rhododendrons, hydrangeas and other plantings, and is shaded by large oak trees. Two Adirondak chairs at the front of the house, which is set well back from the road, provide an inviting place to relax and read.
Inside is a large living/dining room with wide-board pine floors and a beamed ceiling, large picture windows that let in lots of light, a fireplace, and antique furnishings. Also on the first floor is a small den and TV room and a half bath. The well-equipped kitchen opens onto the back yard where there is a table, chairs and a gas grill for outside dining, as well as a charcoal grill.
Upstairs is a spacious master bedroom with a queen bed, chaise-longue, bureau and full closet; a large second bedroom with two twin beds, an armoire and bureau; and a full bath. There is a wall-mounted A/C that cools the entire second floor. The washer and dryer are in the basement.
The Falmouth town center, and Woods Hole, provide a wide variety of restaurants, many with outdoor seating, a Ben & Bills ice cream and chocolate emporium that has lines out the door the ice cream is so good, a French bakery and many shops.+ More
