My home is high above the Chewuch River just 3 miles outside of Winthrop, WA. My VRBO space is a daylight basement apartment, consisting of two bedrooms, a sitting room with reading area, propane heater, plenty of lighting and a mini-kitchen (sink is in an adjacent room,) a bathroom and laundry room. The mini-kitchen includes a fridge, microwave, electric kettle, French press, dishes, flatware, mugs, glasses and a hot plate upon request. In summer and fall, use of the patio and propane grill are welcome.
Dogs are welcome upon request and approval by host, with an additional charge of $10/night. Please note: any dog must be well-socialized with people and other dogs, non-destructive, and house-trained. I have two large, friendly dogs, although they will bark upon your arrival--just their way of greeting you! IMPORTANT: my property is not secured by a fence, so any dog must be able to stay close to the house in a new environment. Coyotes are indigenous residents, so tying a dog outside to keep it contained is NOT recommended. PLEASE NOTE: no dogs are allowed to stay alone in the unit unsupervised, i.e. you must take your dog with you when you are out during the day or provide a secure kennel.
The guest apartment has a separate guest entrance, in-apartment laundry facilities, for other amenities, see description above. In addition there is a large refrigerator and freezer in the adjacent garage as well as a ski waxing table for guests' use. Also provided are: indoor storage for skis, a ski waxing bench and a boot dryer in the heated mud room. In the summer months, bikes can be stored indoors and a bike stand will be available for your use. In addition, the furnished patio and a large propane grill are available for guests' use.
The entire unit--2 bedrooms with one Queen bed in each, bathroom, mini-kitchen, sitting and reading room with propane heater, a laundry room and ski waxing area--is rented for a flat rate as it appears on the booking calendar. The rate changes according to high vs. low season. PLEASE NOTE: I will accept a maximum of 4 guests only, sharing the 2 Queen beds.
64 Chewuch Heights Road is located at the very end of a well-maintained unpaved road. It is regularly plowed in winter, but all-wheel drive is recommended during the winter months. My house is only 3 miles from town, yet has all the ambiance of a private retreat in the mountains. I live on-site, upstairs, and because I work at home, I am regularly available either in person or via phone or text, for questions, problems or recreational advice. I will share the mudroom and the laundry with any guests, although I will maintain my own private entrance. The patio, patio furniture and grill will also be shared with host.
An all-wheel drive car is recommended in the winter. When snow-free (spring, summer, early fall) any passenger vehicle is fine.
There is hourly public transportation available between Winthrop and Twisp that runs on half hour (leaves from and arrives at the Red Barn, 2.5 miles from the house.) During ski season, free shuttles are available from Winthrop to several local Nordic ski trailheads.
Winthrop itself has several restaurants, including the ever-popular Rockinghorse Bakery and coffee shop, the Old Schoolhouse Brewery with its own beers and The Cider House with its own hard ciders. Trail's End Bookstore is excellent and the three outdoor equipment stores (Winthrop Mountain Sports, The Cascade Outdoor Store, and Methow Sport and Cycle) are excellent as well. There is a grocery store 3.5 miles from my house, and an organic food market 10 miles away, in the town of Twisp. I would be happy to recommend a wide variety of hiking, skiing, road and mountain biking opportunities as well as when and where to take advantage of a lazy float down the Methow River, or a swim in a local swimming hole or mountain lake on a hot summer day. The Methow Valley also offers excellent catch-and-release fly fishing and horseback riding.
At this time, I am not charging a security deposit, so please respect my property and leave it as you found it. If you have some sort of accident that stains the carpet or damages any of the amenities, please let me know immediately so I can take care of it. Thanks!
I look forward to welcoming you my home and introducing you the the spectacular four-season recreational activities of the Methow Valley!+ More
