GUEST ACCESS: The whole place is yours! 2 bedrooms, living room, dining room, sunporch with elliptical machine, bathroom, kitchen, deck, yard, laundry, off-street tandem parking for two cars. There's also plenty of free, no-limit on-street parking (just pay attention to the once-a-month street cleaning signs). You are also welcome to use our 2 bicycles (locks and helmets provided) to help you get around town.
If you are relocating to Berkeley from out of town, we can also provide ample, secure, dry, easily accessible storage space in our unfinished basement for the duration of your stay.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS: We will be traveling in Europe and Turkey from July 15-August 26 but will have a friendly neighbor ready to assist you. We'll also be available by skype in case of emergency.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD: We are in the fabulous, green, relaxed, conveniently-located, residential West Berkeley/Ocean View neighborhood, a diverse and historic district which many artists, young families, and long-time residents call home. West Berkeley/Ocean View boasts everything from upscale shops (e.g. Apple Store, Anthropologie, Sur La Table) and many incredible gourmet restaurants (Zut!, Cafe Rouge, Tacubaya, Iyasare, Paisan, Gaumenkitzel, Lucca, Bette's Oceanview Diner, Anchalee, 900 Grayson, Spengers, Longbranch, Quince, Tomate Cafe, Mint Leaf (the list goes on and on) to down home mom-and-pop international markets and eateries (Viks Chat House, Claypot, Mi Tierra, Temari, Hasnia, Smoke BBQ...). We're walking distance to fashionable 4th Street, trendy San Pablo Ave., Aquatic Park, Berkeley Marina Park, The West Berkeley Bowl (the best produce selection and supermarket in the Bay Area), many cafes, yoga and dance studios. If you just need to pick up some milk or eggs, there's a neighborhood convenience store with all the basics right across the street. Easy access to San Francisco and UC Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, and the natural wonders of Marin and the Sonoma/Napa wine country.
NOTE: You can't actually see the ocean from our house, but if you stand in the middle of the street in front of our place, you'll see the towers of the Golden Gate bridge. :) However, the nearby Berkeley Marina Park is an amazing place to breathe the ocean air and take in stunning views of the Bay and sunsets, the San Francisco Skyline, the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges, and the Marin Headlands.
GETTING AROUND: University Avenue, San Pablo Avenue, and Dwight Way bus-lines and the Berkeley AMTRAK station are all within 5 blocks. North Berkeley BART is a 20 minute walk. UC Berkeley Campus is an 8-minute drive, a 40 minute walk or 12-minute bike ride. San Francisco's Civic Center is a 20-minute drive away (without traffic).
To get here from the airport, we recommend Anytime Shuttle Service +1 925 231 7698 ( or Uber ($47 from SFO/$29 from OAK, plus tip). You can also take the BART train from either SFO ($9.30) or OAK ($8.65) to the North Berkeley Station and catch a cab outside the station to bring you to our house (about $10 including tip).
OTHER NOTES: Our house is scheduled to be remodeled and painted in September. We hope you'll forgive the "rustic-vintage" exterior.
Ideally, we are seeking one long term guest (or guests) for the majority of the period that we'll be away.
HOUSE RULES: Absolutely no smoking, pets, or wild parties please. Because this is the home we live in, we ask our guests to treat the space and its contents with conscientious care, cleanliness, and respect.+ More
