A warm welcome to my slice of paradise in Halfmoon Bay. Please make yourselves at home…I hope you enjoy your stay whether having fun exploring the beauty of the Sunshine Coast or bunkering down on the deck with a drink and book in hand. Either way you’ll have a wonderful and relaxing time reconnecting with nature and a simpler lifestyle.
The house is located on over ½ an acre of forested property on a quiet road in a friendly neighbourhood where most neighbours are full time residents. It’s walking distance to beaches, geocache spots, hiking and riding trails. It’s also walking distance to the local café next to the historic Halfmoon Bay General Store, offering food, ice, movie rentals, lotto and liquor (604.885.8555). May through end of September, they are open from 8am until 10pm (9pm the rest of the year).
Upstairs you’ll find two bedrooms (king bed in master room and a double bed in the other room) and a large bathroom fitted with a jetted tub and separate shower – deck off the master bedroom.
The last bedroom and bathroom are located on the main level offering a queen size bed.
There is a lounge in the “back space” that has a DVD player and flat screen TV offering Chromecast and cable TV.
There is an entertainment-sized wrap-around deck – feel free to spread yourselves out and eat outside. The BBQ is connected to the gas line and is located on the deck. There is an outdoor fireplace on the deck too and a fire pit adjacent to the house for bon fires and an excellent way to cook too! Feel free to use the wood pile for the fire pit.
The kitchen has all you need for preparing meals. You’re welcome to use the spices and condiments provided. Tap water is excellent for drinking so you needn’t be concerned. There is a Bose speaker that can be linked to a cell and or laptop if you want to play music.
Exploring the Area:
The property is located near the Mid-Point (45km) area of the Sunshine Coast which is a ribbon community along a 90km coastline and is centrally located to the Village of Madeira Park (15 minutes north) or Sechelt (15 minutes south) – both communities offering many amenities.
Groceries: The Independent, Claytons and IGA in Sechelt and another IGA in Madeira Park.
Dining: Rockwater Resort & Upper Deck (Secret Cove), Painted Boat, Emelles & The Grasshopper Pub (Madeira Park).
Lighthouse Pub and many more (Sechelt), Garden Bay Pub and Laverne’s (Garden Bay).
The Sechelt Artisan Market is open on Saturdays from 8am to 2pm (May-September). Many local artists showcasing their talents in downtown Sechelt at the end of Cowrie Street – look for the tents!
Fishing charters are available Madeira Park - you may spot some whales! If you want to go for a paddle and experience sea fauna, you can rent kayaks or paddleboards at the hut next to the Rockwater Resort in Secret Cove – only a five minute drive from the house. Launch from the ocean and cut over to Thormanby Island, Smuggler Cove, Frenchman’s Cove and Square Bay. They offer singles, tandems and SUP’s.
Hikes and Scenic Walks:
The property is located in a great trail system for hiking and riding.
Smuggler Cove Marine Park, Francis Point Provincial Park, Pender Hill and Mount Daniel.
Skookumchuk Narrows – further afield and near Egmont north end of the coast.
Lakes in the area: My favourite is Ruby Lake – super clean and lovely for swimming and a great pit stop for a dip after hiking Skookumchuk Narrows. Along the Sunshine Coast Hwy, park at top of bend just after the concrete dividers and walk down to a private swim spot. There is also Sakinaw Lake (boat access only) and Garden Bay Lake & Hotel Lake in Garden Bay.
Reservations on BC Ferries are recommended during long weekends and summer months whether arriving or leaving.+ More
