Artsy rock house is an all-stone house in a beauuutiful historic neighborhood with tree-lined streets, close to Detroit. We think the location is perfect because you are in the first village outside of Detroit, and it's the hottest place to be right now. We've got a fireplace, soft bedding, comics books, Detroit art and rock n roll more could you want? New in 2017, one king bed. Oooh soooo cozy. I'm Tamela Ekstrom. I own HAVEN Real Estate + Design, and I am a real estate agent/decorator/artist. My husband is Evan Derian, he is a graphic designer/illustrator and comic book artist. The art-work is created by us or by or our friends, or from our travels. We hope you enjoy the space, we tried to make it fun, warm and cozy. We like mixing modern with antiques. If you are looking for something eclectic, in a great area close to Detroit. We do live in the lower level if you need anything during your stay, we are you have your own private house and as you can see from the reviews, we leave you alone to enjoy your stay. We invite you to experience Detroit with the stone house as your home base. Some articles on the decor of the rock house can be found online under "Detroit News" + "Artistry in Motion".
You would have a 1300 sf HOUSE with private front entry, HUGE front porch, 2 bedrooms (one with KING BED, one bedroom with QUEEN BED), 1 bathroom, dining room, living room, sunroom, FULL KITCHEN with stainless appliances: fridge, stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, instant hot water for tea. Fridge has an ice-maker. Easy street parking. Cozy gas log FIREPLACE!
We do stay in the lower level of the property so we do reserve the driveway for our cars so we can get into our space through the back door.
Interaction with guests
If we are in town when you stay, and would like to meet me or us, I'm happy to do that. If you just want to be alone, no problem! We have lots of tips and info about Detroit, and being a Realtor, I know about all the neighborhoods.
I also offer a Detroit Neighborhood Tour for people thinking of making Detroit home, I can send you more info, basically info or tours from $100 (overview of Detroit neighborhoods that are popping) to $300 (half day tour) to $500 (full day tour). The info has been collected over the past 6 years through hundreds of hours of research, through living here and investing here. If you are thinking of a #movetodetroit, I'm the Realtor you want!
Ferndale is the cool place to be. It is an artsy foodie enclave right outside of Detroit. It's a walkable neighborhood and it's just a few blocks to eclectic, fun, downtown Ferndale. There are lots of bars and restaurants within a few blocks! RustBelt market is a MUST SEE if you are here for the weekend and love homemade goods and Detroit artwork. Flytrap and Toast have excellent breakfasts and Imperial, Public House, and The Emory are favorites for dinner. New Greenspace Cafe has vegan food and yummy drinks. Go Comedy has open mics, there is also the Ringwald playhouse, with lots of intersting events.
Anything you need is walkable in Ferndale: grocery, liquor store, CVS, car rental, ice cream, yummmmy food at cozy, ecclectic, fun restaurants with a 10 minute walk (10 short blocks to the downtown intersection but so much is even closer than that intersection). To go to Detroit you could use Uber or Lyft very easily if you just download the app. If you don't want to rent a car. If you want to rent a car, you can either do it at the airport, or we have Hertz within walking distance (7-10 minute walk). Enterprise is also in Ferndale, but probably a mile away. Zip cars are now available in Ferndale! 8-10 minute walk.
Other things to note
Minimum 2 nights on weekends may-nov. This is a house with a main level and lower level (the last 5 photos with red walls/decor--that's where we stay when we have someone renting the main part of the house) .
The main level is what we rent to you, it is an entire 1300 sf house. It's your private space and is separated with a locked door in between the two spaces. You also have your own private front entrance with large stone porch, that we won't use at all. You won't see us, we won't see you unless you need something. But feel free to ask us anything, we're happy to help!

Please don't move the big furniture without checking with us.
No smoking inside at all, however you can smoke on the large stone porch that is your space. Very cool spot!
If you want to have a few people over, that's cool. If it's more than a small gathering (max 6 to 8 people total), we need to talk about it before you book. It's very important to us to keep our good relationships with our neighbors, and we also live below.
If you would just text me when you check out, that would be helpful.
