“A Redwood Dream” is more suitable for adults, so we don't rent to families with children. It is nestled in the redwoods minutes from the Russian River, close to world famous Sonoma wineries, golf, the ocean, and many other vacation destinations. Our cozy log cabin offers a quiet and private escape with a view of magical redwood trees--not neighbors--as you look out each window. Although you will feel as though you’ve escaped to a bygone era as you drive up the one lane country road to the cabin, you will find that our cabin is complete with all the conveniences you might need.
As you enter the front door you will immediately notice that you are surrounded by authentic log walls. Look to your left and you will see a cozy dining area and living room with central heat and a wood stove for old fashioned comfort, with surround sound, flat screen TV, and wi fi if you decide to stay in for the day. To the right is a charming and convenient kitchen, equipped with everything a cook might need. (Please see our kitchen inventory.) Tucked away in the back is a bedroom and full bathroom separated from the living room and dining room by a passageway. Upstairs has the same comfortable cabin feel with wood clad walls and trim in two bedrooms and another bathroom. The beds are wonderfully comfortable with special soft sheets. The upstairs bedrooms each have a queen bed, and the downstairs bedroom has a full size bed.
As you walk through glass French doors off the living room, you enjoy the beauty of the forest from a 500 square foot private back deck, complete with comfortable furniture for lounging or dining. If you like to barbecue, you will find a barbecue deck immediately outside the kitchen door, connecting to the main deck. In front, there is a large sunny porch with a bench, plus a small sitting deck halfway up the stairs leading to the road.
Wandering down to the back yard you will find a circle of redwood trees with a hidden hammock for quiet relaxation. Or, wander out the front door and up to the road where there are seldom-traveled roads for exploring on foot or bike. A ten minute walk will take you to the Russian River beach.
There are many opportunities for dining, entertainment, and recreation a short drive away. Highway 1, winding along the Pacific coast, is only seven miles away, and Guerneville, with its many fine restaurants, art galleries, and shops, is only six miles away. Korbel Winery is nine miles away. A beautiful nine hole golf course in the redwoods is three miles away in Monte Rio. Monte Rio’s public beach, with boat rentals and restaurants, is two miles away, with a local beach even closer. Duncans Mills, Jenner, and Bodega Bay are to the west, and downtown Monte Rio, Guerneville, and Forestville are to the east.
Our cabin was constructed in the 1960s from a kit, and we were lucky to discover it before other buyers in 2009! We love our little cabin, and have spent many hours creating our own special escape. We searched second hand stores to find unique pieces, and have restored them ourselves. We used salvaged wood to cover the walls in both bathrooms, but kept the original painted plywood walls when we could. We updated where needed, but also tried to keep as many original features as possible. We kept the under-the-eaves closets, but had to cover the original floors with new hardwood. All the outside decks were beyond repair and had to be completely replaced, using our own design, but we were able to keep a few pieces of the parking deck and have reused them in outdoor tables and a countertop inside. We used a redwood tree from our yard to make tables, benches, and an outdoor bar. We know that you will enjoy your time at our little piece of paradise and trust that you will respect our home; it is not a party house.
