Enjoy the Experience & Travel Like a Local! In addition to my guidebook, I now have 3 self-guided tours in the info folder in the house. Truly stay and explore like a local. #1: Quirky & Cheap in a Pricey Town - A shopping guide to vintage, second-hand & thrifts in and around town; #2: Architectural Gems: Evolution of Neighborhoods & Buildings. A walking architectural tour; #3: Fresh Pickins' - Orchards, Farmers' Markets & Distilleries.
The house is a spacious, light-filled, comfy and very clean 3-bedroom, 1 bath, 1200 s.f. apartment on an unexpectedly quiet side street in Hudson -- almost a private house because we're not in our downstairs apartment yet. This is the full top floor of our two-family home, so spread out after a fun-filled and busy day. We haven't moved into the downstairs apartment yet, so you pretty much have the place to yourselves. Laugh, sing, stay up late, dance. As long as the noise is kept inside, you won't be bothering anyone. But I am 2 blocks away, so if you need me, I'm nearby.
Relax at the end of the day in 3 queen bedrooms with memory foam mattresses. There's a large and bright living room & separate dining room that easily seats 6 or more, and full kitchen with everything you need to create a gourmet meal. Dishes, cookware, utensils, microwave and dishwasher, Our full bath requires some coordination if you're all getting ready for an event at the same time. Otherwise, our guests tell us, it all works out okay.
Indoors, we've supplied some board games for family togetherness: Scrabble, Rummicube, Old Maid & Candy Land. And a few books and mags for when you need some alone time. Internet, of course, but no TV, so bring your laptop. .
Everything will be fresh & waiting for you. The back yard isn't ready for prime time yet, but we have nice chairs for the front porch for you, and porch-sitting is encouraged.
Light on all 4 sides, hardwood floors, and your own washer & dryer. Hair dryer, iron and ironing board, bed linens and bath towels - just bring your suitcase. We have everything you need for a quiet retreat after a fun-filled day.
About a 5-8 minute walk, 4 crosstown blocks to Warren Street, where all the action is: top restaurants, galleries, antiques, thrift shops and quirky, independently-owned clothiers.
Hop in the car for a 5-minute drive to Olana, the majestic home and studio of Hudson River artist Fredrick Church - and make sure to stop on the way at Stewart's for their award-winning Philly Vanilla ice cream. Walk or drive to Oakdale Lake, a city-run swimming and fishing area, with a picnic area, an outdoor skatepark and basketball courts, a few blocks away. Visit the Fireman's Museum, see the majestic Hudson River from Promenade Hill, take the Hudson-Athens ferry across the Hudson River in the summer, shop for fresh and delicious local food at our Saturday morning Farmer's Market a few blocks away. All this info and more is in my guidebook in the house. But if there's anything special you want to do or see, ask me ahead and I'll get you info.
