Sonora is located within easy access to all the best the Motherlode has to offer. Sonora is in Tuolumne County. There are many natural and manmade lakes, such as New Melones, Pinecrest Lake, Cherry Lake, Lake Tulloch, Don Pedro, Beardsley Reservoir, as well as the Tuolumne River and the Clavey River. The majority of the Stanislaus National Forest, which contains the Emigrant Wilderness, is located in Tuolumne County. There are many places to backpack, hike and swim. Guests may enjoy fine dining in downtown and live theater options. Tuolumne county hosts events and festivals year-round. In Downtown Sonora, you can visit the local Historical Museum to learn about Sonora’s colorful gold country history. Every Saturday morning, May thru October, stroll down to the Farmers Market and take home organic produce, baked goods and local crafts. March thru December Central Sierra Arts Council has their “2nd Saturday Arts Night’ where downtown art galleries, shops and eateries celebrate the arts. Yosemite, Pinecrest Lake & Columbia State Park are all nearby, as is excellent dinning, wine tasting & theater. Downhill, & cross country skiing or snowshoeing are all near.
