One of our premier listings, this cottage is thoroughly modern, spacious, bright and located on a southern-facing point amongst mature red and white pines. Its features include a large indoor hot tub, numerous decks for lounging and sunbathing, a furnished gazebo, and great swimming in clear spring-fed lake water. Because it is located on a point, the cottage receives direct sunlight all day long, perfect for both relaxing with a coffee in the morning and sunbathing by the lake in the afternoon. Many guests have commented on the “up-north” feel created by the large pine trees and the soothing sound of the wind as it passes through them. Travel time to the cottage from Toronto is approximately 4.5 hours. The cottage is located approximately 35 minutes west of Sudbury, just 20 minutes off the Trans-Canada Highway. The majority of Hwy. 69/400 from Toronto to Sudbury is now a four-lane divided highway for ease of travel. The cottage is located on Little Fairbank Lake, which is connected to Fairbank Lake, one of the larger lakes in the area. The combined waterway provides you with a large area to explore, either using the supplied canoe or a motor boat which you may bring yourself or rent nearby. A provincial park (Fairbank) is located on the larger lake and features a sandy beach and day-hiking trails. The main living space is an open-concept design which includes two seating areas and a modern kitchen with stainless steel-finish appliances. Two bedrooms are located on the lower floor (one with a king- and one with a queen-sized bed) and a large loft, accessed by a spiral staircase, is located upstairs with two singles and one double bed. Satellite TV, including channels such as Discovery, History, and TLC, and a DVD player with a selection of movies, are provided. Wireless Internet is also provided. For those to whom a healthy environment is important, there is absolutely no mustiness in the cottage and dust levels are low since the interior is carpet-free and does not utilize forced-air heating. The owner strives to keep the cottage scent-free and to minimize the use of harsh chemical products, which adversely affect indoor air quality. The interior of the cottage is also free of mice, which are both a nuisance and a health concern. The outdoor air quality in the area is also excellent, and many guests have commented on the how clean the air is compared to in Southern Ontario. (Any pollution originating from Sudbury is generally downwind based on prevailing westerly wind direction.) These factors, along with the cottage’s relaxing atmosphere, combine to create the healthiest environment possible, maximizing the rejuvenating effects of your vacation. Some of the places to visit in the area during your stay include Killarney Provincial Park (breathtaking La Cloche mountains), Manitoulin Island (beautiful Georgian Bay beaches), Science North (science centre located in Sudbury), and Dynamic Earth (earth sciences centre located in Sudbury). Motorboats can be rented at Fairbank Resort (located on Fairbank Lake - 705-866-2773). Boats rented here can be docked at the cottage. A boat launch is located across from the cottage ($10 launch fee) for guests bringing their own boat. Types of fish in the lake include pike, pickerel, smallmouth bass, lake trout and whitefish.
