Perched on a scenic ridge overlooking beautiful Stonehaven Bay, Licorish is located two doors up from historic Fort Bennett, which holds the remains of the battery built by the British in 1778 to protect sugar-loading ships in the bay from the U.S. and other privateers. The Villa is within walking distance of Grafton Beach and the Grafton Caledonia Wildlife Sanctuary, which was once a cocoa estate. The Sanctuary evolved after the 1963 hurricane Flora devastated the island. The owner of the estate, Eleanor Alefounder, took to feeding the wild birds whose habitat had been destroyed; they are still fed at the Copra House in the morning at 8 and every afternoon at 4.
