Quiet countryside cottage located on the sunny South Kona Coast halfway between Kona and Volcanoes National Park. Expansive Ocean and White Water Views. Sunsets. Private Pool. Peaceful Tropical Gardens.
'Hale Polu Lani' (Blue Heaven House) is an oasis on the lower slopes of Mauna Loa, where sea and sky meet. This welcoming hideaway is located at an elevation of 1200 feet where you can enjoy grand views of the Pacific Ocean and the South Kona Coast, colorful gardens, sun-drenched days, stunning sunsets, and cool, starry nights.
Just steps from your own swimming pool, this 3-room guest cottage on our 1-acre estate is surrounded by lush gardens and comfortably furnished with new island-style decor and tasteful touches.
A large, main room is filled with amenities and spaciously accommodates bedroom, living room, kitchen & dining areas. The bright, comfortable living area has lots of windows and a ceiling fan to bring in afternoon trade winds and cool evening breezes sweeping down from the mountain. There's also an air conditioning unit for exceptionally hot days.
The queen-size 'Sleep Number' Select Comfort brand bed adjusts so each of you can sleep comfortably, according to whether you like your mattress soft or firm. Bedside tables have reading lamps, radio/alarm clock, and a wide selection of books, magazines and travel information.
A separate dressing area in an adjacent room is outfitted with full-size dresser, hangers and shelving, large mirror, and a luggage rack. There's a writing table here for you and a notebook filled with information on all there is to see and do on the island.
The bathroom is a sunny space with a beautiful stone tile shower and stone tile floor; it's stocked with all the basics (plush towels, shower gel & hand soap, hair-dryer, TP, kleenex, etc.) and features a second door leading directly out to the pool.
A small but efficient kitchen is well-equipped with refrigerator, microwave, hotplate, toaster, blender, electric coffee grinder and coffeemaker. Dishes, flatware, beverage and wine glasses, cooking pots and pans, cooking and serving tools, cooking oil, coffee filters, bottled water, paper towels, salt & pepper, sugar, napkins, dish soap, towels, etc., are all in place. Additional cooking facilities are on the lanai just outside the sliding glass doors on a gas grill. You can choose to dine poolside under the patio table umbrella or inside at your cozy table for two.
Enjoy an ocean view from your own swimming pool, surrounded by palms, bromeliads, bananas, pineapple, and other tropical plants. Chaise lounges, sun umbrella, table and chairs make a quiet day relaxing by the pool a great option if you want a break from all the other activities available to you on the Big Island. Evening here is softly lit by tiki torches and a string of lights under the eaves; for an absolutely memorable experience, pause to enjoy a glowing orange sun setting on the Pacific or the vast Hawaiian night sky studded with stars seeming so close you could touch them. There are several advantages to being at a higher elevation and not at sea level --- we enjoy clearer skies, cooling breezes and better air quality.
Hale Polu Lani is a perfect romantic getaway for honeymooners!
The closest beach, on palm-lined Honomalino Bay, is just down the hill and a short hike from the village of Miloli'i (the last Hawaiian fishing village on the island); it has great snorkeling, spinner dolphin, sea turtles, and the occasional migrating whale. Quiet and serene, truly off the beaten path, you're likely to be the only ones on this local black sand beach. Other beaches nearby include Hookena where caves and pristine reefs offer exceptional snorkel adventures, 'Two-Step' at Kealakekua Bay, the Black Sand Beach at Punalu'u, and Green Sand Beach at South Point, a marvel in hue and isolation.
Snorkel gear, boogie board, beach chairs, umbrella, towels, and a small cooler are here for your personal use during your stay at Hale Polu Lani.
Well situated on the sunny west side of the island on the South Kona Coast, halfway between Kona and Volcanoes National Park, the cottage is located an hour's drive from Kona and approx. 2 hours from Hilo and the east side of the island. We're a short drive from a number of coffee farms offering free tours and tastings. Other notable sites nearby include Pu'uhonua O Honaunau (Place of Refuge), the Painted Church, Captain Cook monument, and Amy Greenwell's Ethnobotanical Gardens.
