After renting rooms out on VRBO for two years, at Beulah Land Farm, Im so excited to offer a very unique, fully equipped campsite, which makes use of green techniques to repurpose our old chicken house, horse shed and concrete pig pen! The net result of a year of preparations has produced an unusual and lovely place to spend your vacation in the mountains far from the maddening crowd!! Come to the mountains and find a place of rest at The Henhouse on Beulah Land Farm!!
The Henhouse at Beulah Land Farm is a Happy Green Campsite!
A very DIFFERENT vacation experience awaits you at The Henhouse at Beulah Land Farm- As you arrive you will find your own little wonderland at The Henhouse- Walk through the arbor past your picket fence and survey your sweet little campsite. It is a self contained area set up against a cliffside on my farm with a huge cabin tent, a solar shower and green toileting facilities and most of all, your Very own Henhouse Outdoor Kitchen!
The Henhouse is literally our seventy five year old chicken house- which has been remodeled and repurposed as an open air outdoor kitchen. At one end, you will find cabinets and shelves loaded with everything you could possibly need in the way of dishes, pots and pans, utensils and even staples for cooking on your own little camp stove, which sits on a massive antique farm table. You are also provided with a large cooler, a small travel cooler and a big Pic Nic Basket for day trips.
The concrete Henhouse floor has been painted and then partially covered with vinyl and has a 1950’s formica table and chairs and an antique high chair. Two big windows overlook my own little garden. You are welcome to partake if anything looks inviting. Of course our growing season isn't too long- Plant June 1 and prepare for frost by mid September!
At the other end of the Henhouse you will find a "washing up station", with a galvanized wash basin, a bushel basket full of towels and a space to put up your dish rack when you finish washing your dishes in the big galvanized tub which sets just a few feet away, under the faucet. Theres also a medicine chest with a mirror complete with some helpful essentials!
At night, the Henhouse is well lit with strands of old timey looking bulbs which cast a rosy glow that is bright enough to play games by. There are a several games on hand and there are many more games you can borrow from the main house. You might want to set up the old croquet set and play like they used to back in the nineteen twenties! When I researched the history of my home, I was told that it was a community gathering place. The neighbors used to come down here after church in carriages and the ladies in their long dresses would stroll around the lawn and play croquet.
There is a big bonfire ring, and while we are not able to provide the wood for burning, there is a little store less than a mile away that does sell little packages of wood or you are fine to: B.Y.O.W. -bring your own wood!
Your “tent away from home” is a fourteen by ten foot Coleman Cabin tent. It easily divides into two rooms and has two super comfy blow up queen sized beds made up with soft cotton sheets and quilts. There is also a fan and a charging station for your phones and computers. Being in the valley, there is usually a breeze and even the warmest days almost always end in very cool nights.
For your “green” showering pleasure, enjoy a solar shower in the Pig Pen. Thats right. I said Pig Pen. Back in the days I was homeschooling my four sons, our first pig pens were EPIC FAILS! We would be doing school on the couch and hear “Snort Snort” and there would be our two pigs looking in at us with their feet on the window sill. So, finally, we built the ultimate concrete pig pen! Much to the boys disappointment, they never came calling again. At the time we were studying the legends of King Arthur. So we decided to name all the pigs after the knights of the round table. Naturally, we called the pig pen, “Hamelot". Well, like the Henhouse, Hamelot has now been repurposed! Silly Hand painted pigs in the shower enclosure will remind you of Beulah Land’s bygone days. You have four three and a half gallon solar shower bags for a gravity fed shower of sun heated water. I can't say much for the water pressure, but you will make a memory! Step out of the shower into your own private container garden- of flowers and vegetables. (Once its safe to plant outside, they will be full of flowers and veggies!!) If anythings ripe, help yourself!
Behind the Pig Pen is the old Horse Shed. We built this for our old pony, Buck to get away from the wind and the snow during one of our iciest winters. And do you know what he did? He went up to the top of the hill and stood there with his head down facing into the wind!! Eventually he did spend quite a bit of time in the old shed. His bit and bridle still hang there. It now contains our little ‘green’ outhouse, a state of the art dry composting toilet. Instructions for
Some other amenities of the Henhouse at Beulah Land include a picnic table, croquet, fire pit and Brushy Fork Creek which runs the entire length of our property- it is a lovely shallow tumbling creek. My kids grew up building dams along the creek- still a favorite pastime for our guests!!
I have made every effort to create a completely outfitted, serene space for you to find not only an inexpensive easy camping vacation in a lovely sustainable environment, but a place of rest and peace. Come to the mountains and find your "quiet" again!+ More
