This chalet built in 1970 is shaded by tall Hickory trees on a channel off of Van Auken Lake in Southwestern Michigan. If you desire a vacation like you had when you were a kid- this is it! Large, grassy lot on channel for freedom to run, bike, fish, play hide 'n seek, cornhole, badminton, frisbee, catch, etc. Relax, laugh and enjoy a glass of wine on our roomy screened-in porch overlooking channel with dock. Fish, swim or boat on Van Auken Lake. Canoe, Paddleboat, Rowboat available. Can bring a pontoon boat, motor boat or jet ski. This is an old-fashioned, small dirt road, make a bonfire outside type of location, yet it is minutes away from Lake Michigan beaches, world-class wineries, fruit orchards, blueberry patches, farmers markets, South Haven downtown boutiques, antique shops, golf courses, Saugatuck attractions, Air Zoo, Kal-Haven bike trail, Black River, etc.
Cottage is amply furnished. Classic cabin decor with wood paneling and comfy solid furniture. Full kitchen with gas stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, blender. Stocked with pots/pans, dishes, flatware, glasses, etc. Outside gas grill. Dining set for 6 inside and table and chairs on porch for 6-8. One bedroom downstairs with full size bed. 2 bedrooms upstairs- one with two full size beds and one with a full size bed, single bed and sofa single pull-out. Each has large windows which open. Bathroom with shower downstairs. Large living room with 2 large couches which are hideaway beds. Great for two families to share. If you are looking for ultra modern, high tech, then this is not your cabin. There is a TV with lots of videos and DVDs to play, family board games, and beach toys you can borrow. Air conditioning units available in downstairs living room and upstairs west bedroom, also many fans. We are looking into getting wifi and tv antenna service, but there are public libraries a few miles away in each direction which offer free wifi. If you have a way to use your phone as a hotspot that may be an option. It is a well/septic system- not city water, so we ask that you be aware of water use and drain use. No dishwasher, disposal, washer or dryer- but a very clean laundromat is nearby and there is a clothesline outside.
Lots of nature outside- for sure you will see fish, turtles, tree frogs, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, muskrats, herons. Dogs are welcome. Suggest flea/tick prevention for pets, even though we have had no problem with ticks. Hickory Haven is a quiet, back to nature getaway. We rent for a one-week period Sunday to Sunday in June, July, August and September.
