One block from Douglas Bay, the best low tide beach in the area. It's a fantastic but not well known playground with lots of room for skim boarding, kiting the para-glider, snorkeling or just playing in the surf. Fall brings the salmon close to shore and wetsuits and snorkel gear are available to swim with them as they congregate to await the swelling of their spawning streams. Coho salmon can be caught right off the beach with light tackle and hip waders. The water is clean and clear, warm enough for good swimming in August without the wet suits. Eagles are frequent visitors as well as herons and many shore birds. Sometimes the phosphorescent plankton in the water are so bright that it's hard to resist a midnight paddle in the canoe or swim in a cloud of light. Beach combing for colorful rocks, carving lessons with Rob or seeking inspiration as an artist or writer, Higgin's Inn may be your choice year after year.
