The Richmond Iron Works was an important working iron mill from 1829 to 1929 when it was purchased by a private owner. The house was constructed around 1840 as a management office for the mill and as such housed the payroll for up to 1,000 employees during its peak. The house has a walk in safe room with a bronze door and marble from the Lee Marble quarry. Soaring 13ft ceilings, maple floors , and a modern interior design from the current owners make the home a great juxtaposition of old and new. The 2.5 acre property abuts one of the few standing blast furnace foundations, charging wall, and the property is surrounded by 12 ft stone walls that formed the back of charcoal and ore storage barns.
