Fully-furnished house available for the summer in Long Beach’s beautiful California Heights Historic Neighborhood, which is very quiet, safe, and clean. Ample street parking available (no permit required). Easy access to the 405 freeway, and conveniently near the Long Beach Airport (but not noisy). There are nearby neighborhood parks as well.
The historical house has hardwood floors throughout and double-hung windows for good ventilation (sea breeze arrives in late afternoon). Central air conditioning is also available, although infrequently necessary with prudent opening/closing of windows. The living room has 32” LCD TV, Blu-Ray player, and CD stereo system. There is streaming Netflix service accessible through the Blu-Ray player (the whole house has high-speed wireless internet). The living room also has an oak desk in the corner. The adjacent dining area has a massive pedestal table of tropical rubberwood and an antique “pirate” chandelier.
Kitchen has original wooden cabinets, new linoleum flooring, new dishwasher, electric oven/range, range fan, toaster and microwave. There is also a mobile butcher block cart. Kitchen and half-bathroom also have tubular skylights for refreshing natural light. Back room (covered porch) has abundant windows, a rowing machine, lamp & rocking chair for reading, spare queen bed and nightstand. The back room has a small closet for hanging and stacking clothes, as well as the clothes washer/dryer. (Although we never use the dryer during the summer—clothes efficiently dry on the backyard’s clothesline almost as fast as the dryer!)
The master bedroom has a king bed, and a 10 foot closet, plus spacious overhead compartments. The child’s bedroom has a fullsize bed and a small closet. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans.
Front yard is shaded by a huge pine tree, with ferns and other shade-loving plants beneath its canopy and eco-friendly pine mulch throughout. The groundcover is interspersed with sturdy granite boulders. The front has a shaded porch with a sturdy sitting bench. An automatic irrigation system provides for most of the watering needs, although some of the plants must be hand-watered during the warm summer months. The overall theme is a fusion of classic coastal California and the great Sierran outdoors.
The private backyard has a “wild abundance” motif, with an expansive potato vine growing on the walls of the garage (not accessible). The luxuriant, eclectic vegetation includes philodendron, passion vine, tropical canna lilies, tall Cape honeysuckle, a ficus tree, Chinese elm, clumping bamboo, lanky old roses and giant cacti. It is a bit of a green escape within the structure of the city. Like the front yard, it is mostly irrigated, although some hand watering will be required (hose is easily accessible). There is a Weber gas barbecue, patio table & chairs, plus two separate shady sitting areas: a stone bench under a vine-covered pergola and a paved shade patio.
From the house there is easy access (half-block away) to Long Beach Transit buses traveling, north, south & west. The westward buses are ten minutes away from the commuter rail station (Metro Blue Line) for efficient public transportation throughout the greater Long Beach/Los Angeles area.+ More
