Our townhome is the place to bring your family for a unique and memorable Colorado mountain trip!
Our goal is to make your kids (and you) love the mountain life as much as we do! The home is located just under Castle Rock, one of the most stunning of the Hermosa Cliffs on Highway 550 north of Durango. This townhome is unique in the complex as it is the only one with a whole wall of windows to enjoy the views. It also is just steps away from Elbert Creek - Open the back windows or doors and you will be greeted by the sound of a babbling creek (or a rushing river depending on the time of way, it’s heavenly)! The deck out back is great for watching your kids run around in the meadow or splash in the creek while you enjoy your morning coffee or happy hour after a long day of hiking (of which there is an abundance around here)! There’s also a fire pit out back perfect for s’more making!
The house boasts 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. The downstairs bedroom is kid-central starting with the awesome bunk bed. There are shelves full of fun books and tons of toys to entertain your kids for hours! There is also a full crib and changing table for the smaller munchkins.
Hidden in the kids room, there is a super-secret hideaway complete with a fake LED campfire (for those rainy afternoons you can’t be outside). We recommend not telling your kids about the space beforehand and let them discover it themselves when they arrive!
Upstairs, you will find a retreat for weary parents. There are 2 bedrooms both with on-suite bathrooms.
The master bedroom boasts amazing views of the Hermosa Cliffs above the King size memory foam bed. There’s an attached, private deck as well as an indoor sitting area to enjoy some peace and quiet after the kids go down for the night. Or, take a soak in the large jetted sublime!
The second bedroom boasts a super comfortable queen size bed and the on-suite bath ensures you don’t have to talk to another soul once you close your door for the night. The window in the room opens up to the creekside of the house, so at night you can let the gentle sounds of a river lull you to sleep.
My mother is a chef and a large part of vacation for us is spending time cooking together. We hope you will enjoy the same and as such, you will be hard pressed to find a more well-stocked kitchen! You’ll be cooking with real pots and pans (not the flimsy “bend when you pick them up” type you’re used to in a rental) and we have all the utensils and kitchen gadgets any chef would require to create a masterpiece dinner!
We’ve made every effort to make this place as kid-friendly as possible so you can relax and enjoy your time together rather than trying to keep them entertained or keep them out of trouble. We have installed kid-safe outlets on all the kid-level outlets. We have cabinet locks on any unsafe cabinets and have moved all harsh chemicals out of their reach. There are baby gates on the stairs both in the house and on the deck and we’ve taken care to keep breakable items out of the way.
With all the wonderful amenities at the rental, you may be wondering why you should ever leave, but, this place is perfectly situated to hike, bike, ski or head into town for some shopping! A few highlights: -- Castle Rock Trail is just across the street - no driving required for this hike! 3 miles to the top of the cliff you can see out your window - From the top, you can just make out your vacation home! -- Tons of other kid-friendly hikes within 15-30 minutes: Spud Lake, Engineer Mountain, Cascade creek. We have details about all the hikes that we can share with you! -- The Needles country store is right across the street in case you forget any essential from you just need some ice cream! -- Purgatory is less than 5 minutes away and has year-round activities. In the summer, try the Alpine Slide - It’s a Blast!! -- PJ’s Gourmet Market is about 15 minutes away and is an awesome boutique grocery store. -- Durango itself is a beautiful 25 minute drive down the hill. We recommend playing Wildlife Bingo with the kids on the way there.
Let us know if you have any questions about the place or Durango in general. We’d love to help make your vacation perfect!
