Your vacation home is only 35 minutes from Concord - New Hampshire's State Capitol. Newbury is the Southern most tip of Lake Sunapee, and only a 8 minute drive from Mt. Sunapee Ski Resort. Ipswich, MA (the north shore of Boston) is only an hour and a half drive away. Driving from Fairfield County, Connecticut is just three hours 20 minutes away. Portsmouth and NH's beaches are only an hour east of Concord, while Canada's Quebec City is approximately 5 hours north.
My cottage is over a hundred years old. It has original flooring and original Adirondack paneling that adds so much charm. The cottage has a charming living room with a wood fireplace, a pull out queen couch with a Bob O Pedic mattress and loveseat. Although there is no cable, telephone or wi-fi, the Living Room has lots of games/board games to play with your kids. And bring your DVDs, there is a VCR for rainy days. Downstairs there is a bedroom with a Full Bed and Dining Room with a Full Bath. The kitchen is fully equipped to make a delicious meal! There isn't a dishwasher, but we have a microwave, oven, French door refrigerator, pots, pans, utensils, dishes and coffee maker to start your morning. The upstairs is completely open (no wall separating sleeping areas), there is one queen bed and two twin beds. There is ample parking for 3 cars at the back of the cottage and 2 cars in front of the cottage. There is a weber grille for barbequing. There is a small screened in porch for outside dining or enjoying cocktails on a summer night! The cottage doesn't have a washer/dryer, but the laundromat is just 4 miles away, so is the grocery store, pharmacy, hospital and shopping!
LAKE SUNAPEE ATTRACTIONS AND ACTIVITES:
SUMMER: Lake Sunapee is one of the largest, cleanest and most beautiful lakes in New Hampshire.
Lake Sunapee is also known for its serenity and is often referred to as the "sleepy" lake. My cottage is located in an area on the lake referred to as Blodgett's Landing. Summer in Blodgett's Landing is such a special time. Not only is it unique to any other place on the lake, it is rich in history. It has been reported that "the beginning of Lake Sunapee as a summer resort may be dated in 1875 when a man named George W. Blodgett built the first cottages or leased land upon which they were built in the area which became Blodgett's Landing. Prior to the cottages, however, came the camps with tents". It is said that this is why the cabins erected later were built so unusually close together. By the way, the early group of visitors, who are said to have left a lasting impression on the topography and personality of the landing, were the Spiritualists of New Hampshire. The "Lake Sunapee Spiritualist" began holding their annual Camp Meetings in Blodgett's in 1877. Blodgett's, by they way, is the "gold coast" of Lake Sunapee, which means the sunsets are awesome.
You have access to the community dock and beach to swim and relax which is just a 3 minute walk from the cottage on Lake Avenue. The cottage is one street back from the lake. You can enjoy a hike on one of the many trails surrounding the area. You can rent a boat or jet ski from a local marina, or take water skiing lessons!
Hiking and exploring are close by with easy access to highways. Don't miss The Fells estate just down the street for beautiful stately gardens and John Hay's 1891 Summer Home! There are wonderful tours of this historic estate and fabulous gardens.
I strongly recommend enjoying an evening on the Lake dining aboard the MV Kearsarge Dinner cruise which departs Sunapee Harbor every evening and sails all along the lake. The all you can eat buffet is delicious and you can enjoy a glass of wine watching the most beautiful scenery. Reservations are strongly recommended.
If shopping is your way to "relax" then you will enjoy one of the many shops in the town of New London (just 4 miles away).
Pets: Per discretion of owner on pet size, breed, etc. One small sized pet may be ok; pet deposit may be required, to be refunded if no pet cleaning is required or damage is sustained (inside and out)
We have a loveable golden retriever and cat as pets, who stay with us when we are at the cottage. Our dog loves the lake! Just wanted to let you know in case you have allergies.
The cottage doesn't have any heat (the fireplace does heat up the cottage so very much) or air conditioning (we use fans in the Summer which we have at the cottage).
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions or require additional information
Lake Sunapee is just magical!
