Tons of space indoors and the ocean at your doorstep: breathe deep and make some lasting memories.
Welcome to a fully-furnished and fully renovated 2,500-square-foot oceanfront house with an open floor plan, vaulted ceiling, and floor-to-ceiling windows. You've got 4 large tastefully decorated bedrooms (with new Queen size beds), 3 bathrooms, and a full gourmet kitchen to play with.
There is enough parking for four vehicles, and the decks in the front (with amazing ocean view) & rear of the house are perfect for BBQing, basking in the sunrise with a cup of coffee, or sipping the night away with a glass of wine or local craft beer. Speaking of the backyard--we call it a 'nature yard,' with paths, tons of greenery, and quite often, neighbourhood deer (who find the space as relaxing as we do).
Finally, we can't emphasise this enough: you can walk on the beach for swimming, skim boarding, and kayaking in the calm waters of Departure Bay right in front of the house. Wave to passing eagles, otters, seals, canoes, ferries, and seaplanes, in front of the impressive backdrop of the mighty coastal mountains.
But even with this amount of nature & calm surrounding you, how convenient is your location?
It's a short walk to the Departure Bay beach & park (for kids activities and picnicking), and other recreation opportunities are within reach: walkways, bike paths, parks, marshes, and waterfalls. If swimming in the ocean isn't your thing, Nanaimo offers two full-service community swimming pools (Nanaimo Aquatic Centre & Beban Park) as well as the sandy, family-friendly beach at Westwood Lake. Vancouver Island University is a 12-minute drive away.
Plan on golfing? You've got a number of nearby choices:
-Nanaimo Golf Club
Since you'll be centrally located in a city of 90,000 people, everything you'll need is an easy drive or taxi ride away: specially shopping, groceries, liquor stores, gas stations, libraries, movie and live theatres, museums, great local restaurants, delis, pubs, and live music. Quaint passenger ferries can sail you over to the walk-able Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park or to fish & chips on the wharf at the floating Dinghy Dock Pub.
Spas, massage therapists, salons, and doctors & dentists are not far away either.
Nanaimo's central location on Vancouver Island makes our beach house a perfect home base for day trips to other Island locations, including:
-Victoria (Butchart Gardens, British Columbia Legislature)
-Cowichan Bay & Shawnigan Lake (shopping & swimming)
-Duncan/Cowichan Valley (Kinsol Trestle, food and wine tours)
-Salt Spring Island & Gabriola Island (farmers markets, local artisans)
-Chemainus (famous murals, Chemainus Theatre)
-Ladysmith (Transfer Beach Park, heritage downtown)
-Parksville & Qualicum (sandy beaches, golfing)
-Coombs (Old Country Market with goats on the roof!)
-Port Alberni (Cathedral Grove, McLean Mill National Historic Site)
-Tofino & Ucluelet (surfing, sport fishing)
-Comox Valley & Campbell River (Mt. Washington Ski Resort, arts festivals)
There are many ways to get to Nanaimo: via BC Ferries from Vancouver (the Departure Bay terminal is a 5-minute drive from the house); through Air Canada & Westjet flights to the Nanaimo Airport or Seair & Harbour Air seaplanes to the Nanaimo Harbour; or driving up from Victoria (Highway 1) or south from Comox (Highway 19 - 90 minutes).
Finally, we--the property owners--are right next door, and will quickly & happily answer any questions you may have about the property or recommend ways to make your stay in Nanaimo as rich & memorable as possible. We look forward to sharing our ocean views with you!
