My wife and I have been going to Maui for 30 years. One of our favorite places to stay is the Worldmark, Kihei. Kihei is located just below the Piilani highway. It is about a twenty-five minute drive to the either the airport or downtown Lahaina.
Kihei is on the southwest shore, the sunniest, driest end of the island. With such sunny and beautiful weather, it is a great place to spend time on Maui. The Worldmark Kihei definitely makes it easier to relax. Located in the less crowded part of Maui, this resort has it all: the location, amenities, rooms, and of course the great views of the ocean. First, the location is truly great. You can't beat being able to get to a beach without having to get into a car, so this property starts out with huge advantage before you even open the door. A short walk across the street and you are at one of the nicest beaches in Hawaii, Kama’ole 1 beach. It has lifeguards, rest rooms and outdoor showers. The beach is fairly long with a gentle slope, and the water is usually calm. Since the beach is so close, you are able to save money on gas and you can enjoy a sunset without worrying about the Lahaina crowds. The units are clean and updated. The rooms are large, comfortable, and spacious. We stayed in a two bedroom unit, with a King in the Master bedroom, a Queen in the second bedroom and Queen Murphy Bed in living area. The kitchen is well stocked, very neat and well equipped with everything you need to cook. There is an in-suite laundry, so you don’t need to over pack. You can also use one of the many grills conveniently located in central areas to barbecue. It is close to everything you could need. There are many good shops and restaurants within walking distance. You should try the different farmer’s markets, local eateries, and food trucks. Check out the Maui Bread Company, The Kihei Cafe, Cafe Olea, Freds, and Mama's Fish House. The staff are very nice and keep the place well maintained, along with excellent customer service from Housekeeping. The resort is kid friendly and great for the whole family. It offers a nice outdoor pool, hot tub, a children's pool, as well as fitness and recreational centers and WiFi. No pets are allowed and no smoking is allowed inside the units, and you must be 21 or older to book. At check-in the resort will ask for a credit or debit card damage hold, fully refundable. Resort staff may offer you to attend a 90 minute presentation about the timeshare. It is totally up to you, just say No if you don't want to.
Along with swimming and surfing you can also find great kayaking, and you may even spot a giant humpback whale spouting or breaching the ocean’s surface. Explore the unseen side of Maui under the sea. Snorkeling off Maui’s beaches and reefs you can see colorful fish, sea turtles and coral formations. Most resort beaches along West Maui and South Maui offer opportunities for snorkelers. Fantastic snorkeling spot in nearby Wailea at the Ahihi Kinau reserve. If you want to drive a bit, the northernmost part of Kaanapali Beach near Black Rock is known for great snorkeling.
