Stonewood on the New River
Follow a serene, mountain road with rolling pasture and grazing cattle to a tree-lined gravel street that meanders beside the New River. Nestled under mature trees in a second-home neighborhood on the river, this home will delight you. It boasts both the authentic interior of a log cabin and the contemporary pleasure of a great room with vaulted ceiling and light, lots of light.
A country kitchen greets you with seating for 4, a dishwasher, washer/dryer, ample kitchen utensils to prepare gourmet meals, and a butcher block as an extra work space. Hardwood floors and pine paneling lead you to the living room with a real-stone propane fireplace, comfortable seating for an evening by the fire, or a lazy bath in the downstairs, clawfoot tub. The owner is an artist and built a great room with three walls of glass, ample seating, quaint dining table, freestanding propane fireplace, trundle bed which pulls out to a king sleeper, sink and bar, and a sunny deck.
Decorated in antique-country chic, the home is a walk back in time, especially the inviting bedrooms on the second floor. Two bedrooms share the second full bath. One bedroom has a double bed, bunk beds, and a television for a cozy playroom and sleep space for the kids. The second, master bedroom has a double bed and private television.
If you can tear yourself away from the home, step outside and enjoy a river breeze on the sprawling front yard. Or tube, fish, or picnic on the riverfront lot, acquired by the cabin owner for their and your enjoyment, just a few steps away across the gravel road. Or warm yourself on a cool autumn evening at the fire pit. Or barbeque on the back deck with tables and seating for 8. Or swing in the shade or dine at the outdoor picnic table. Or settle in with a cup of coffee or glass of wine or a good book on the covered rocking chair porch with a gate to secure your pup. Or rinse off in the outdoor shower after a tough day of trout fishing.
The owners have also provided a “Things to See and Do” notebook with area attractions and local restaurant menus for when you want to venture out to the Jeffersons.
