This house is conveniently located near the University, but it's tucked away on a sleepy street with big trees, a world-class view, and the park is in the back yard. The house is comfortable, quiet, has lots of natural light.
Our very comfortable house is less than a mile walk to Hayward Field. The location can’t be beat. It’s on a street with almost zero traffic. The house is bright, with an open floorplan and southern exposure. It has a beautiful view of Spencer’s Butte, and the back yard leads into a secluded finger of Hendricks Park, providing access to miles of trails through the forest. The trail network includes spectacular (but slightly longer) walking routes to campus, without having to step foot on any busy streets. We are on a steep hill above the university, but the walk only takes about 15 minutes. Walking to campus is normally easier and more enjoyable than trying to park down there.
The house can accommodate eight people comfortably. There is a master bedroom with a queen-sized mattress and its own bathroom, a guest bedroom with a double bed, one bedroom with a double bed, one bedroom with a single bed, and a comfy couch in the common area. There is a second bathroom near the bedrooms. Typical for a house built in the 1950s, the back bedrooms are small. The living areas are open and spacious.
The décor is a mixture of original mid-century modern and eclectic folk art. We will have the house spotless and uncluttered when you arrive – however, this is our primary residence most of the time, so be prepared to find our coats in the closet and other personal effects. Rarely is it hot enough in Eugene to require AC, but our ductless heat pump has the ability to run as a chiller, if needed.
We are able to accommodate two well-behaved dogs. There is a small fenced dog run outside, and a utility room that can be set up with dog beds for when you are out of the house. Dogs also really appreciate having the park in the back yard. (If you want to bring your dogs, contact us so we can explain our expectations for them. These are common sense rules primarily focused on keeping our neighbors happy.)
We love to cook, so the kitchen is well equipped, even though it's not very big. We have a decent BBQ on the back patio, and comfortable patio furniture. There is an upstairs deck on the front-side of the house with a view of Spencer’s Butte. The house has Wi-Fi and a TV, although there is no cable. If you bring a computer, you can stream video from the internet to the TV. The stereo can stream music from any Wi-Fi device.
The house has one spot under the carport for parking, and plenty of unrestricted parking on the street.
You'll have the whole house, except for a few cupboards and closets that will be locked, full of boring things that you wouldn't want anyway.
In most situations, we will be at Nick's family's house in the country west of Eugene while you are staying here, and we'll be available to answer any questions. If there are times when we are on the river or otherwise out of touch, Nick's oldest and best friend lives nearby, and we will put our guests in touch with him, in case anything comes up.
If you need recommendations for things to do, we would be happy to share some ideas with you.
The house is not well served by public transit. Eugene is generally an easy city to drive in, and there is a surprising range of goods and services that are available within walking distance from the house.+ More
