Property Description

This 2,000 sq ft, 2-bedroom + den, 3 ba 'post and beam' home is located in the renowned Tamarisk Ranchos, near Tamarisk Country Club. It rubs shoulders with some of the most historic homes in the area, designed by the best architects of the time. The community of 16 houses was given historic district status in 2016. It was designed by William Krisel in 1958 and built by Lou Halper who founded nearby Tamarisk Country Club. Original owners at Tamarisk Ranchos included Groucho Marx and many other famous agents, producers, writers, even Sinatra's banker and physician lived here. This home's original owner was John Guedel who created shows for Art Linkletter and 'You Bet Your Life' for Groucho. The house and the community have been featured in Atomic Ranch magazine (2015), the Desert Sun, USA Today, and RM Magazine (2017). Krisel was the king of indoor/outdoor living and that's very evident at Tamarisk Ranchos. Each home is slightly different, but all face inwards to the park-like setting and share the extra-large community pool and spa. This home is just yards from the pool, which is rarely used - almost like having your own. It has its own shaded back yard and patio as well as sunny, south-facing front patio, both with incredible mountain views. Sliding doors from den to back yard, and from living / dining area to front terrace, both have tables and chairs and lounge seating. The central wrap-around fireplace is the focus of the living area and works with gas-logs to warm up the atmosphere in cool nights. Central heat and air are fully updated. Originally this home had three bedrooms; the third is now used as a den, retains its own, recently remodeled bathroom. The den has original sliding doors to the living room, offering privacy for e.g. overnight guests (air mattress provided). Great attention has been paid to the interior decor which features bold colored accent walls in living and bedroom areas, grass cloth wallpaper, a unique built-in bar area, and original mid-century furnishings along with 1950s and 60s accent pieces. The kitchen has the original pass-through and sliding door that would once have separated the maid from the houseguests. Now it features white cabinets, granite counter tops, and white appliances. A door leads from the kitchen directly to the garage. The master bedroom has its original vanity area. Draperies are vintage barkcloth combined with Zandra Rhodes fabric sheers, roman blinds are custom made. Both bedrooms are carpeted. Master bathroom has a tub/shower combination and single sink, second bathroom has a shower and a double vanity.
