Rustic Dwelling with nice touches of beauty. Located in a upscale neighborhood that is quiet, safe and near by to a lot of great destinations and events that run year round. The "Tree Art House" is is two room studio is made up of a main room, a kitchen and big lanai/porch, which in Hawaii is the outdoor room and all together gives the place an indoor/outdoor feel that is tropical style living. I call it the Tree Trim Art House because I took special care to select, mill and install wood trim that is just gorgeous to look at with mango, koa, cedar, and redwood that creates art with wood. There is an indoor flush toilet but the shower is outside nestled tree top branches. No, it isn't up in the air but the property drops off into this magic grotto and out of it a Monkey Pod Tree soars with massive branches that snake out from the trunk and are but a few feet off the ground. So it is a 'treetop' shower without being in the 'tree top.' The stuff you write home about. There is also a solar heated home made hot tub that is a cozy fit for two out and under the stars. The property is 1 1/2 acres and dips, curves, drops and flows in a most unusual topography. This is a very out of the norm place that I call the Sweet Spot Homestead and it is indeed a sweet spot. You have to see it to believe and it was my love of the land and 16 years to put the lots together to form this geologically connected one-of-a-kind vacation destination. Coconuts that were planted over a decade ago are now making nuts and that is the kind of dedication that it takes to create a place like this. Having lived in this neighborhood for 30 years I can say without doubt, there is nothing else like this place in the area. Long time locals come over and tell me, "I had no idea a place like this existed here."
You will be in a 100% off the grid solar driven house! Something to write home about. The property is populated with over two dozen food bearing trees. Coconut, limes, breadfruit, sugar cane, avocado, coffee, cacao, cherry, grapefruit, star more. The neighborhood is charming with a walk to stunning coast line and a black sand beach in Kehena Bay that is frequented by dolphins and whales in the wintertime. Kalani Honua Eco-Resort in world re-known and just less that 2 miles away, a beautiful walk along the coast line. Sunday morning is a dance that is sure to please if you like to get Ecstatic. On Wednesday is Uncle Robert's Night Market a scene to beat all scenes. Open air, no cover music event with dozens of food vendors from all over the island coming to share eats from all over the world from Cajun to Raw Food, Thai to Samoan and Vegan Gelato by Nicco. The coastal road is one of the most beautiful drives on the entire island winding along through tree tunnels and over hanging vines that grace your drive. Warm ponds are but 20 minutes away and 25 minutes away is the town of Pahoa which is as colorful as a tropical flower. A variety of restaurants from Lugiun's Mexican, Paulo's Italian, Kaleo's Fusion, Ning's Thai, Mighty Sushi, Black Rock American Cafe, and full blown bakery called the Tin Shack. A regular shots and beer bar and a Kava/Kombucha non-alcoholic bar too. The lava may be flowing and that is a sight of a lifetime to see the blood of the planet flowing into the ocean and across the lava field. This is what Hawaii looked like 50 years ago. Come and really unwind, slow down, chill out and hang loose in one of the coolest scenes in all the islands. There is no place like Lower Puna.
If you are looking for the 'tourist' destination this isn't it. If you are looking for what it like to live in Hawaii, close to nature, inspired by the surroundings, breathing in some of the cleanest air in the world, getting in touch with slowing down and taking in the beauty of old Hawaii, then this is the right place. It a vacation you won't soon forget.+ More
