This home has been in our family for almost 60 years. It has been remodeled to update its mid century California charm. The privacy of the location allowed us to create a space with lots of large windows and movable exterior walls to create a dwelling that brings the outdoors in. Although it looks out upon the surrounding neighborhood, the interior of the house is entirely private from anyone's view. It sits on a ridge overlooking the canyons and winding streets that lead to the village of Del Mar and the beaches below. The view spans from La Jolla to Oceanside on a clear day. It is a 15 minute walk down the hill to the nearest restaurants and shops and a five minute drive to the closest beach- with lifeguard and other amenities- and a 10 minute walk to the bluffs above the Pacific. Intrepid hikers climb down the bluffs to the private beaches on surfer trails to isolated beaches only lightly used. Neighbors meander to the bluffs to share the sunset together each evening. You can stroll to dinner (if you are up for climbing back up the hill!) or to the beach at 15th street that has showers, restroom and summer music events.
Apart from the open concept living/dining area there is a master bedroom and bath, a small office and a den (with adjoining second bath) that easily converts into a second bedroom. The house is not large and is comfortable for one to four people. There are two beds available. One is a California Queen size mattress and the other is a sofa bed with a very comfortable queen size Temperpedic mattress. It isn't a good house for children under 10. It is best used as a romantic getaway, a place to bring old friends together, a private retreat or a quiet place to ease a stressful life. The neighborhood is quiet so gatherings over 10 people are discouraged. You can dine outside and we have a fully equipped kitchen and an outside grill. No loud parties.
There is space to park two vehicles out of site from the street at the top of the drive.
If you like to sit in the sunlight and watch the ocean, read a good book, write, cook, visit with friends and family in a beautiful nurturing environment, this is the house for you. There are nearby hikes in a canyon park and Torrey Pines State Park, four miles away. There are also great walks and bird watching in the nearby lagoon nature preserves. Numerous spas are nearby. If you like to gamble on horse races, there is an off site booking facility at the Del Mar Racetrack. The Racetrack and Fairground facility also hosts many events, such as the Kaboo Music Festival. The Racetrack/Fairgrounds facility is 1.9 miles from the house. There are outstanding music venues such as The Belly Up in neighboring Solana Beach and the Mostly Mozart Festival in La Jolla in June. There are many places of interest in San Diego County- fine parks, museums, outstanding professional theater, fishing, nature explorations such as whale watching, exploring nearby Baja California with its fine wine industry and beautiful coastline. Outdoor activities such as surfing, fishing, sea and lagoon kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, paddle boarding, sailing, hot air ballooning, horseback riding, hang gliding, paragliding are all available.
Amenities at the house include a fireplace, outdoor fire ring, AC and heat, oversize bathtub, outdoor shower, laundry facilities, two TVs with full cable accessibility, wifi, sound equipment, and a kitchen with lots of appliances.+ More
