Property Description

Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort & Retreat is located at the gateway of the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton

Island. Open four seasons with 55 acres of natural sanctuary surrounding you, each of our unique

accommodations, adventures and relaxing activities offer a rejuvenating and exciting experience each time.

Accommodations range from spacious chalets, cozy rooms in our main lodge, Mongolian and Cedar

style yurts, geodesic domes and tree-house domes, to primitive wilderness camping. We even have a private farmhouse with its own hiking trail bordering the Atlantic ocean, located 12 km from our home base. Indulge in a cedar soaking tub, infrared sauna, acupuncture or our complimentary meditation and

Qi Gong sessions each morning.

Eat healthy in our Bistro. Enjoy kayak, canoe and stand up paddle boards on our lake with the beach and ocean in front of you while eagles soar overhead. Let us help guide your adventures and experiences on Cape Breton Island, from mild to wild.

Outdoor Adventure!

Do you like to hike, find waterfalls, caves, and hidden lakes? Hiking is always part of the adventure at Cabot Shores and very much a part of our local culture. We can help guide you to hikes and itineraries of all levels of difficulty and on all parts of the island. Ask us about guided tours to the Glooscap Sea Caves, the Spinnakin of Breton Cove and other group adventures.

Snowshoeing, skiing, and fire-side tea

We have something for everyone during the cold months. Go snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, downhill skiing, and snowboarding. Then relax with acupuncture, meditation or qi gong, infrared sauna or hot tubs for a full range of wellness.

Bedroom Description

Awaken. Explore. Discover.

Cabot Shores Wilderness Retreat is a Wellness and Wilderness Resort located along the serene landscape of the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Open year round, Cabot Shores is a retreat centre offering a mixture of outdoor adventure, interesting and relaxing accommodations and health services. Cabot Shores is a lot more than just cottages, though we do have 4 chalets on site and a large rustic farmhouse a short distance North along the Cabot Trail. We also have 6 Mongolian Style Yurts, 1 Cedar and one vinyl yurt, 2 tree house domes in our apple orchard and another geodesic dome nestled in the ferns, riverside camping and more.

Our main lodge features a great sitting area around our stone hearth, a full bar featuring Cape Breton brewed beer, and a games room with a pool table and ping pong table, fireplace, infrared sauna and relaxing furniture. Our Bistro is also open year round and serves a fresh variety of seafood, grilled meats, soups and chowders, plus vegan and vegetarian options. With 3 standard lodge rooms upstairs and 3 pet-friendly rooms with outdoor access downstairs, the lodge is perfect for hosting partners or groups.

Adventures from Mild to Wild:

If you're passionate about the outdoors, Cabot Shores is the place for you. Kayak, canoe, hike and snowshoe on-site and enjoy the beauty of both the freshwater Indian Brook and the ocean beyond. Take yourself across on the Eagle Feather Ferry to our beach, explore near trails or join us for guided hikes, puffin and whale excursions, waterfalls and more! Cabot Shores offers services such as Acupuncture, Massage, Qi Gong, Yoga and an Infrared Sauna onsite. We are happy to provide an initial guide to meditation and the use of our cedar meditation house.

Location Description

Cabot Shores has the unique combination of the Indian Brook river, the Atlantic ocean and our small lake, Church Pond all on site. We rent kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards and are happy to give tips on where to go fishing, swimming and waterfall exploring.

We also happen to be just a few miles away from Donelda's Bird Watching tour, a boat tour that visits the Bird Islands - a nature sanctuary seen from the doorway of our yurts, chalets and main lodge. Only 15 minutes away you can enjoy a half or full day of sea kayaking in beautiful St. Ann's Bay with North River Kayaks. Take a trip up North to the many beaches in the Highlands National Park or enjoy a Whale Watch tour we arrange for you and your family, friends or clients. The possibilities are endless!
