Property Description

Cheticamp Island, off the coast of a small Acadian fishing village, is on the Cabot Trail, at the base of the Cape Breton National Forest. Relax on the comfortable 40' wrap-around deck and see whales, seals, bald eagles, sunrises and sunsets. Swim in the warm Gulf Stream waters just before they merge with the Atlantic. Kayak in gentle coves or in the sea where whales have been known to glide next to you. This extraordinary new house of soft yellow walls and white filmy sea-blown curtains is filled with every amenity for your relaxation and enjoyment. Thirty-six hundred sq ft in three roomy ocean front floors spaciously accommodates ten people or romances two in front of the fire. The living room, eat-in-kitchen and all bedrooms look out on the water. There are four Kohler designer bathrooms and an outside shower. Snuggle under down comforters and listen to lapping waves. From this luxurious comfort, travel thru all of Cape Breton Island, happy to return home.

At the base of the World Famous Cape Breton National Park, where you will find whale watching, hiking, etc.. Overlooking the ocean and close to delicious seafood. Snuggled into a knoll with flowing grass and spectacular views. Feel free to go up on the hill with a picnic, and watch the pods of spouting whales playing, and the glorious sunset. Local and international class fiddling.

Cabot Trail

Cheticamp is on the Cabot Trail at the entrance to the National Forest. Driving North you overlook the spectacular Gulf of St. Lawrence where the warm Gulf Tides join the Atlantic Ocean. There are groomed hiking trails, nature walks, camping, kayaking, moose, eagles and bear. As you round the top crest, there is Gampo Abbey, the famous Buddhist Monastery; the most remote village Meat Cove and delicious Morrison's restaurant. Starting south along the Atlantic, you can whale watch on a sailing schooner, dine at the elegant Fairmont (Canadian Pacific) Keltic Lodge, and poke around numerous coastal villages. You'll come to St. Ann's Gallic College wonderful gift shop; Baddeck, the Sailing Capital of the World and Alexander Graham Bell's excellent museum; on to the Normaway Inn for dinner and fiddling, maybe even Buddy or Natalie McMasters . Now drive through the gorgeous Margaree Valley. And another day go to Louisbourg, the magnificent restored Eighteenth Century French Fort. We have heard it said the Cabot Trail is considered to be the eleventh wonder of the world!

Location Description

Cape Breton Island is the setting for Longfellow's compelling story, EVANGELINE, about the deportation of the French Acadians in the eighteenth century. The story continued for the people of Cheticamp when they bartered with their prison guards in the Channel Islands to be returned to their land for fifty years of indentured servitude. History is lived here, not only that of the Acadians and MicMac First Nation People, but also the French, Scotts and Irish, whose ships found the land and whose people stayed. Enjoy nature. Whales and eagles have been seen from the deck. Have fun dancing 'till three in the morning. Listen to the best fiddling, and eat fine food. Play golf and tennis. Tour museums and elegant Canadian Pacific hotels. Take a day at the Spa. Hike and swim and kayak and come home to relaxing luxury and dinner on the deck overlooking the water. Stay up for the beautiful northern sky and get up for a Cape Breton sunrise. Welcome to Heaven! Enjoy!

Other Activities: Hike the many trails off the Cabot Trail in the National Forest. The Skyline trail with boardwalk pathways down to the ocean is our favorite. We have seen mother and baby moose munching on branches fifty feet from us. Go whale watching on the Zodiac where you can almost touch the whales or on one of the whale cruises out of Cheticamp or Pleasant Bay. Ocean and Bay kayaking right outside the house. Listen to the best fiddlling at the Kinsman, Doreyman, Normaway Inn, Parkside , Le Gabriel and more . Walk to the beach. Swim in the warm gulf stream and soak up the strong northern sun.
