Located on picturesque Wollaston Lake near the village of Coe Hill, Great Northern Loon Escape Cottage is a perfect spot for a relaxed, or active vacation. Snowmobilers and ATV enthusiasts can explore trails right from the door; anglers in the family will enjoy the great fishing on the lake; water lovers can canoe and kayak the lake and winding Crowe River, and there’s plenty for hikers, bikers and photographers to do and see as well. Of course, if all you want to do is sit on the dock and take in the view, it’s all there for you too!
The main floor of the cottage has a large hallway which is great for winter visitors to store coats andboots. It leads into a kitchen that is newly equipped with dishwasher and a French door fridge, having sufficient new cupboards and workspace with its breakfast nook for creating family meals. Across the front of the cottage is a dining and living area with walk-outs onto the deck and wonderful views over the lake. A wood burning stove warms the cottage in winter and on cooler evenings, and along with the under floor heating, this makes a super-cozy spot for an out-of-season break.
Stairs lead to the upper floor which has hardwood floors throughout. The master bedroom has a propane fireplace and a seating area for quiet reading. The second and third spacious bedrooms, each offering private deck areas via sliding doors and a second private door, make for plenty of comfortable sleeping accommodation. There are fully renovated 4-piece bathrooms on both levels. The indoor garage holds a pool table that converts to ping pong table, along with dart boards for rainy day tourneys. This is a great place for two families to enjoy time together.
In summer, the activity will take place mostly outside. The spacious main floor tri-level deck areas have plenty of patio furniture along with a hot tub for taking a soak under the stars. A good sized lawn will encourage lots of play while the beach volleyball area can host hours of family competition. There’s a variety of watercraft to explore the lake whether for an evening paddle, fishing or venturing out to the local sandy beaches
The cottage is located in a bay and the water is quite shallow deepening from 4ft at the end of the dock to 5ft at the swim raft. The shallow area to the side of the dock is great for small children but beyond that point it can get weedy as the season progresses. There is an excellent sandy public beach within paddling distance and the diving rocks are a lake favorite place to go for an afternoon sitting on the water.
This is a great area to explore, on foot, bike or by water. Check out the The Old Hastings Mercantile & Gallery and the Old Schoolhouse Tea Room along Hwy 620; explore art galleries and craft stores in Bancroft, and try the local restaurant in nearby Coe Hill.
