Property Description

In the midst of the Bay of Islands, you will find our quaint little hideaway where you can escape back to nature. Our Island is 2 acres of breath taking scenery, located approximately 5 minutes by boat from where you will park your car at Whitefish Falls. We will be waiting dockside to transport you to our Island.

We have chosen to develop the Island off grid but supply all normal amenities with a combination of solar panels, propane and whisper generator running intermittently when required by guests.

The island has predominant 80 to 100 year old white pine with a variety of other trees which include birch, oak, maple, cedar and one spruce, along with wild blueberry bushes. July is typically the season for wild blueberries but it can vary.

There is great swimming right off the dock and if canoeing or kayaking is your forte, this is the perfect location. The surrounding area is noted for great fishing, pickerel, pike, bass, perch and pan fish have been caught right off the island. The sunrises and sunsets here are indescribable, you simply have to see them. It is an artists and or photographers dream!

The backdrop to our island is the famous La Cloche Mountain Range. These mountains are located in the Canadian Shield, they are composed primarily of white

quartzite, and this was a renowned area for the famous Group of Seven Painters. You can make your time here whatever you desire it to be. A great vacation for two couples, a romantic getaway for one couple, a yoga retreat, or a chance to be alone with your thoughts, to paint, photograph nature at its best, compose music, poetry or just settle in with a selection of your favorite books. You are the sole occupants on the island which allows for complete privacy.

The Main Cottage is a renovated circular farm grain bin surrounded with decks. It is complimented with a cobblestone addition. The cobblestones to build this addition were hand gathered directly off the island. You have incredible views from the decks and this is where you will view amazing sunsets. There is an outdoor kitchen with a propane barbecue with adjoining counter and sink with hot and cold running water.

On the main floor of the circular grain bin there is local red pine flooring accented with handmade Mexican tile. There is a living/dining area which includes a kitchen with cooking facilities and a full size sink. There is a semi circular stair to the loft bedroom that has local cedar plank flooring with a queen size bed. There is handmade Mexican tile throughout the cobble stone addition which includes a full size propane fridge, desk and storage area. The shower with hand painted Mexican tile and vanity shelf are in a separate room from the sink and toilet allowing privacy for both.

The Guest accommodation is a replica of a circa 1800 sheep wagon with sleeping accommodation for two in a double bed as was the tradition at that time. You will wake up to light filtering through a beautiful stained glass window.

There is an outdoor washroom with a flush toilet and sink with hot and cold running water. You must experience the circular Bamboo outdoor shower with both hot and cold running water.

On the lower deck, where you will view the sunrises there is a wood tub for those of you that don't wish to swim in the lake.

You may bring surf boards , paddle boards , kayaks, canoes etc.,there are 3 kayaks and a 2 person canoe available for exploring the area by water, to experience nature and take in the sound of the Loons. It is approximately one mile by water to Whitefish Falls, where you can purchase basic supplies along with many flavors of ice cream.

The Island and the area are referred to as a dark sky area. The minimal reflection of light from towns allows an unbelievable experience to view stars much like the original inhabitants of the area experienced before hydro and lights dominated our world.

There is much to see and experience in the immediate area at Whitefish Falls. It was home to one of the first hydro producing plants. You can see the ruins of that original plant with its water spillways, and imagine how it changed lives years ago.

There is a Bar/Restaurant in Whitefish Falls that has wing night on Thursday and on Friday they serve local Whitefish. There is a very quaint coffee/lunch cafe in a renovated historic building which was once a former Church.

If you wish to bring your own runabout, there is lots of dock space at the Island and a boat launch ramp at Whitefish Falls. For travelling to and from the Island and all your water sports such as kayaking and canoeing, you should bring your own personal life jackets.

For area experiences, there is a tour boat that runs out of Little Current all summer to Bay Finn, Killarney and the Benjamin Islands, if time permits for a day adventure. On Manitoulin Island, both Little Current, with its waterfront shops and marina and Kagawong, with the fudge shop, museum and Bridal Veil Falls make a great day trip.

There are 2 basic routes to get to our Island: from Sudbury go west on Hwy #17 and south on Hwy #6 to Whitefish Falls: from Tobermoy take the famous Chi Cheemaun ferry ( 2 hour trip) (bar and restaurant and gift shop on board) to South Baymouth reservations for the ferry are recommended then take Hwy #6 North to Whitefish Falls .

If you are coming from Sudbury you will go through Espanola there are two large grocery stores located here. This is where you may obtain your weekly grocery supplies. We suggest that you bring coolers to transport refrigerated items until you arrive at the Island. Coming from South Baymouth to Little Current there are also two grocery stores. Again coolers are suggested to keep your items refrigerated.
