Property Description

Welcome to Blissville. Little Cabin Island will unwind and relax anyone and everyone. There are lots of possibilities without a whole lot of interruptions from the outside world. Think of it as a place with a timezone of its own, where one can just be centered and present without worrying about a thing.

Remember the simple life when you visit Little Cabin Island on Annabessacook Lake. Enjoy an amazing sunrise from the front porch of your very own private island cabin, take a swim off the dock, or paddle around and explore the pristine 1400 acre Annabessacook Lake. Unwind by the campfire, watch the sunset, and listen to the loons as they settle in for the night. Catch a glimpse of the eagles and osprey roosting in the trees overhead. Bring your fishing gear if you're so inclined for world class bass fishing!

We will ferry you to the island, and offer a canoe or kayaks for your enjoyment. If you choose to bring your own boat we will shuttle you to the public boat ramp on the lake, and offer parking for your car and trailer overnight. We also invite you to canoe over to the exclusive 1 Big Sustainable Island and hike this 14 acre gem, relax in one of the hammocks, or try your hand at the rope swing.

This off-the-grid (NO ELECTRICITY) open concept 600 square foot cabin has a sleeping loft with a queen size bed. The living area is furnished with a rocker, ottoman, a dining table for four and a futon that converts to a double bed. It is equipped with an indoor Biolet composting toilet. The kitchen area has an old-fashioned water pump, a supply of spring water from our bedrock well, and all the cooking utensils and equipment you will need to prepare your favorite food.

Little Cabin sits on its own 1/4 acre island in Annabessacook Lake. Enjoy 1400 acres of pristine surroundings in this rustic, off-the-grid cedar log cabin. The island's natural landscape allows for spectacular bird watching.

Rates include one canoe or two kayaks for the length of your stay, pit firewood, gas grill, coleman stove, kitchen/dining ware, and access to 1 Big Sustainable Island.

We will meet you at the dock at 2pm for a boat ride to the island. Check out is 11am.

Please remember: Your food! (Normally Dinner, Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks); Cooler / Ice (Block ice lasts longer); Headlamp or Flashlight; Extra batteries; Sun protection; Insect repellent; Warm clothes (fleece or wool layers are recommended); Socks or slippers for inside the cabin (shoes left outside please); Water shoes (lake bottom has shells and rocks); Rain gear (just in case).

Do not hesitate to call us if you have an emergency or any questions about your stay. Joanne can be reached at 207.752.1190. Kent can be reached at 207.512.2524.

We really appreciate folks leaving shoes on the porch. So, please, no outside shoes in the cabin.

Be careful on the steps and in the loft! An adult must supervise children in the loft at all times.

The composting toilet is self-sufficient. Please keep the bathroom door and the lid to the toilet closed to help the air flow go up and out the vent. In order for the doors on the toilet to open to allow waste in, you must sit. (Feel free to use a tree outside if you prefer to stand.) After your contribution of #2 please add one scoop of composting material. (No need to add if only #1.) Only toilet paper and human waste go in the toilet. No feminine products or diapers please. If you pee only, put the used toilet paper in the trashcan next to the toilet.

Please separate your trash. Put the burnable waste in the crock by the jelly cupboard, and use it to start your fire in the fire pit. There is a container for compost, one for recycling, and one for trash. Thank you!

The hand pump at the kitchen sink pulls water from the lake. If you pump it several times and no water comes out, it needs to be primed. Pull the handle to the up position and pour water into the top of the pump until water flows out the spout. Then pump a number of times. Note: This is not suitable for drinking or cooking. The water in the glass jugs is from our well and is potable. We use lake water to wash our hands and dishes. We boil the lake water, use soap, and then rinse with warm potable water.

No fireworks on the island at any time. Outside fires are allowed only in the fire pit. Attend the fire at all times. The fire should be kept inside the container – no flames above the rim. Keep a bucket of lake water next to the fire at all times. Wet the ground around the fire pit from time to time. Pay careful attention to the direction of the wind as it can change quickly. The crock next to the jelly cupboard is for burnable waste – perfect for starting fires. Matches are in the jelly cupboard. Candles may be lit as long as you are in the room. Please do not leave burning candles unattended. The fire extinguisher is hanging on the wall next to the back door of the cabin. In case of emergency, please call Kent (207.512.2524) or Joanne (207.752.1190). The volunteer fire department will be delayed in responding to a call on the island.

We welcome most dogs on the island. We charge $20/night non-refundable pet fee ($25/night for two). In order to continue allowing dogs on the island we ask that you pick up after your dog. If you see other poop, please pick that up too. (Nothing worse than stepping on poop!) Please keep dogs off the furniture. We have a dog blanket and a dog bowl for their comfort and use. Please have your dog under control. Never leave your dog unattended on the island.

There is a canoe and/or kayak available for your leisure. Please keep one life jacket per adult in the boat or on your person while in use. Children must wear a life jacket while in a boat. The paddles and life jackets are in the shed. Please follow boating safety rules while on the lake.

Boat Rides:

We offer extra pontoon boat rides. If you want to come over to Big Island, or if you want a lift back to your vehicle we are happy to do so. We ask $20 per round trip.

Fishing permits are $11 per person for a 24-hour period. Augusta West Kampground, located on the north end of the lake, has permits and bait. You may also find bait at South Monmouth Market on Route 126 at the blinking light.

The lake and surrounding area is abundant with wildlife. Appreciate the animals from afar. You may come across a nesting area. Please do not disturb! Birds and turtles may become aggressive or abandon their nest if you get too close. Otherwise, the birds may come visit you if you sit very still. There are bird guidebooks in the cabin for your enjoyment.

Big Island:

To the east, in the center of the lake, is Big Island. It is administered by Jo and Kent’s non-profit, 1 Big Sustainable Island. During the summer months we often have events and activities scheduled which are open to the public. Check with Jo and Kent for more information or find us at

Log Book:

Please make an entry in the cabin logbook about your stay and feel free to read about what other friends have experienced during their visits to Little Cabin Island.

We do not charge a cleaning fee. We ask as you prepare to leave, please do your dishes and put them away, sweep the floors, and strip the sheets off the bed. If you prefer we handle the cleaning, please leave $50 and we will be happy to clean up. ☺

We at Little Cabin Island welcome you and hope that you find your stay peaceful and restoring.
