Frank Wood Cottage c.1923 – the weathered, elegant Unpainted Aristocracy of Nags Head. History abounds from the very timbers of this cottage built by an Elizabeth City carpenter, Stephen J Twine with its distinctive style of cedar shingles, wide porches, lean-out porch seating, propped shutters to allow those ocean breezes in and sun out and low slant of the hip roofs. The longevity of Francis Wood Cottage is due to the builder and those families that preserved these homes.
Families in the late 20’s and 30’s came to the beautiful shores of Nags Head to spend their inland summers, swimming in the morning and evenings, exploring the beach, catching their dinner and then your evening cocktails shared with your neighbors. These homes have stood the test of time, wars and weather.
Time moves on and this gracious home with its old charm and modern conveniences allows you and your family to make memories of the Nags Head shore as they did in years gone by. You will see things from years past in this home – like the antique fire extinguisher grenade hanging on the wall.
