Housatonic Lodge is surrounded by trees and features cozy pine interiors and comfortable American antiques. Large living room, eat-in kitchen, three bedrooms, and a sunroom. Plenty of firewood for the fireplace or firepit. Enjoy lounging or dining on the huge deck overlooking the river and hills. Weber grill. Prefer full-week rentals in the summer, but are flexible.
Our kitchen has a Bertazzoni gas range, blender, waffle iron, microwave, and dishwasher. Kitchen is well-stocked with olive oil, sea salt, and the like.
There is one full bathroom downstairs and a half bath upstairs.
The house is furnished with sturdy comfortable American antiques and is child-friendly. Toys, games, books, bikes, sprinkler, big lawn, and safe paved area with basketball hoop.
The path to the river is rough (we're working on it), but easy access is a short drive away. Drive around in the autumn for some of the best leaf peeping in New England -- and the prettiest covered bridge.
The main bedroom (downstairs) has a double bed. The other (downstairs) has a queen. Upstairs bedroom has two twin beds joined together as a king (may be separated). The upstairs may be cold in winter. Two daybeds (in common areas) aren't usually made up for sleeping, but may be.
100% cotton linens and towels are provided. Connect your device to our Bluetooth Bose outdoor speaker, Tivoli radios, or Crosley turntable. A 31" flatscreen TV and DVD player are tucked away and there's a small collection of classic and kids' movies. Wifi available (at your expense via a YourKarma device).
You'll have full run of the house, yard, woods, and 1000' of river frontage. No neighbors in sight. House is set well-off the road.
Swimming: public beaches (fee): Lake Wononscopomuc (13 minute drive), Lakeville; Taconic State Park (20 minutes), or Lake Waramaug State Park (23 minutes).
The house is in Sharon, but closer (1.5 miles) to West Cornwall, home of Connecticut's most picturesque covered bridge, a seasonal farmers' market, sweet shops, and a quirky French restaurant, RSVP.
Tennis: public courts at Hotchkiss and Salisbury schools, call to confirm availability.
Dogs: welcome, there's a big yard and it's set back from the road. Good hiking trails nearby. Dogs love splashing in the river, however it's not good for people swimming. Long Pond Park in Salisbury/Lakeville has a dog park where dogs can swim; also Pond Mountain trail in Kent is dog-friendly.
Dates are somewhat flexible, so contact me directly if the time you want is blocked off.
Caveats: Our house is old and quirky and our style more shabby than chic; worn paint here and there. We practice natural landscaping, so the lawn is mostly clover and moss.
You'll have to charge and open an account to use the portable Wifi device. Internet/email isn't expensive, but streaming video is.
Cell phone coverage (with AT&T at least) is excellent at the house, but spotty nearby. Consumer Cellular isn't good.
It's very quiet and you can't see the road from the house, but you might hear traffic in the yard or if windows are open. You might see (and hear) a freight train across the river, but it's infrequent.
Cats and dogs sometimes stay in the house (FYI in case you're deathly allergic).
The river path is very steep and needs restoring (we're working on it). Along the river is rough too.
Cleaning fee: $100
No smoking, inside or out (or if you must outside, please take your butts with you)
- Well-behaved pets welcome (no fence).
