Property Description

Grammy’s House is a comfortable duplex home located beside the Lamoille River in East Hardwick Village. Settled in the late 1700’s this is a small, sleepy village on the edge of the Northeast Kingdom. It is located on Vermont Route 16, two and a half hours south of Montreal QC, one and a half hours east of Burlington, Vt and 45 minutes northeast of Montpelier, Vermont’s beautiful capital city.

Grammy’s House provides a central location for day trips to skiing facilities including the Stowe Mountain Resort, Smugglers, Sugarbush, Jay Peak and Burke Mountain. The Craftsbury Outdoor Center, where you’ll find some of the best cross-country skiing in New England, is only 20 minutes away. There is direct access to some of the best snowmobile trails in Northern Vermont.

Grammy’s House is a 9 minute drive from Greensboro and the beautiful, pristine Caspian Lake. There you will find a free public beach, lakeside walking trail and public boat access. It’s an excellent lake for sailing and ice fishing. Greensboro is also home to the famous Willy’s General Store and to Circus Smirkus Camp. Drop off your camper and stay awhile!

Home to the CAE (Center for an Agricultural Economy) Hardwick is the hub of the new sustainable agriculture movement in Vermont. Grammy’s House is minutes away from craft breweries, including the international-award-winning Hill Farmstead in Greensboro. Caledonia Spirits in Hardwick (home of Barr Hill Gin), High Mowing Seeds, the farm stands of organic vegetable growers, such as Pete’s Greens in Craftsbury, maple groves, grass fed beef and pork farms and small dairy farms all contribute to the rural economy. The NEK is also known for sweet corn on the cob, award winning cheeses, ice cream, honey, pumpkins, excellent bakeries, apple orchards and local ciders. The area has many flower growers and nurseries including Perennial Pleasures which offers English Tea, a gift shop and garden walks, just a 3 minute walk from Grammy’s House.

Many restaurants in the area feature local craft beers on-tap, Vermont cheeses including those from nearby Jasper Hill Cellars and creative dishes made from locally grown and raised products.

History buffs will enjoy driving the Bailey Hazen Road and visiting the Hardwick Historical Society as well as many nearby small historic settlements. The Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier is a beautifully restored Federal period building and the Vermont History Museum is next door. The Old Stone House Museum in Brownington is just a 40 minute drive. right in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom in this quiet country village.
