Quiet, walkable, mixed-use neighborhood. This condominium community was built in 1958 and is next door to Hotel Valley Ho.

It was known as the White Feather Apartments, promoted as "wonderful, luxurious resort living just two blocks from the heart of the 'West's Most Western Town' where there's everything to do under the sun," states "Paradise" tourism guide, 1961.

It featured "lovely modern apartments enhanced with geometric Indian design with the traditional western theme.... Southern exposure... Large lawn area for lounging... Two heated swimming pools.... Nine hole putting green... Shuffleboard... All electric kitchens." Today, it remains a popular destination in the heart of Old Town.

The neighboring apartment (to the east) was called The Jacaranda. It's now The Scottsdale Palms. The Americana (formerly The Azura) and the original Dayo and Granada still stand as part of this Post World War II "Space Age" neighborhood.

Buildings of that era were an architectural aggregate of the Jetsons TV cartoon and Disneyland's Fantasyland. "Cars looked like jets, cafés looked like flying saucers and motels (were) designed like theme park(s)," states an online source and originated in Southern California. It came to be known as "Googie" architecture.

Features of popular Googie architecture include exaggerated sweeping arches, upswept or cantilevered roofs, geometric shapes, fanciful details and bright colors. Examples of well-known retro-futuristic, Space Age, Googie architecture in the U.S.A.:

Seattle, Washington Space Needle, Seattle, WA, U.S.A. The Theme Building, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. *"Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" road sign, Sunset Strip, Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.

*The original McDonald's restaurant, Downey, California, U.S.A.
