RIVERFRONT (Laughing Whitefish River)

This historic cabin offers riverfront views, privacy and wildlife viewing. You are surrounded by 350 acres of pristine, mixed-hardwood forest, river and lake. These natural surroundings, without neighbors, invite you to hike, bike, canoe (available), kayak and fish...or just enjoy the peace and serenity while sitting in the gazebo, large screened porch or next to a crackling fire. Enjoy your evenings stargazing while sitting around the fire pit feasting on s'mores. The variety of trees and their foliage during the fall months is spectacular!

The newly renovated historic cabin, with the original wood burning fireplace, features a fully equipped kitchen, living and dining areas, a cozy bedroom with a queen bed and river view, one bedroom with bunk beds and a twin, and a comfortable living area lounger that sleeps two. The bathroom offers a handicapped accessible sink, toilet and roll-in shower. Live off the grid! Enjoy our solar power with a back-up generator.

The Laughing Whitefish River is right outside your cottage door. The Laughing Whitefish Lake is just a down the river. These cabins are on the western edge of the Hiawatha National Forest, with 350 private acres to explore. Use one of the cottage canoes and meander down to the Laughing Whitefish Lake for an additional fishing experience.

This peaceful, isolated retreat property is a short drive (30 minutes-- everything is relative in the Upper Peninsula) from many attractions in Marquette ~ The Cool City, Munising, restaurants, waterfalls, white sand beaches, kayaking and beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The Peter White Cabin is the perfect setting for family gatherings, reunions, honeymooners, time with friends, anniversaries, fishermen, hunters, wildlife photographers, writers..... Our lovely gazebo is the perfect setting for outdoor weddings.

We are dog friendly (with approval) and wheelchair accessible. Please let us know if you will be bringing a wheelchair so we can arrange the furniture in the best way for wheelchairs.

LATE FALL/NOVEMBER GUESTS: While it can be a beautiful time of year at the Peter White Cabins, the road leading to the cabins is only a seasonal road. It is not plowed upon snowfall. Each November guest MUST have a truck, snowmobile or snow shoes or cross country skis. There is a high probability of snowfall in the area during November. You must be able to manage the entry and exit on your own.

Within a month of your intended arrival, if you are traveling with 5 people or less, and will only need the main cabin, please ask about our discounted rate for your stay! For 1 cabin pricing, please call the office (734) 284-5677.

The story behind these cabins:

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Main Cabin- Peter White Cabin
Bedroom #1: One queen bed (1 bed)
Bedroom #2: Twin bunk beds & twin bed (3 beds)

Bathroom: 1 Full size bathroom.
*additional sleeping arrangements in living room for 2

Guest Cabin - Shiras Cabin

Bedroom #1: 1 queen bed & 1 twin bed (2 beds)

Bedroom #2 1 queen bed & 1 twin bed (2 beds)

Bathroom: 1/2 bath (toilet & sink only)

Cell phone service: Cell phone service is generally reliable in the U.P. But, there seems to be one spot next to the Nature Conservancy gate where you may be able to get service. The neighboring cities, Marquette & Munising seem to have reliable cell phone service.

Gazebo: There is a 10x12 foot gazebo with a small solar-powered light.

Grills: There is a Webber charcoal grill, please provide your own charcoal.

Energy: Since the Peter White and Shiras Cabins are powered by solar (with a generator back-up that we try to keep the use at a minimum), we have to be sensitive to the electrical use. No power lines-- just trees and nature..Aaahhh...

Events: We require notification if you will be having an event where more then 13 people will be attending, even for the day. There are concerns regarding the parking (8 cars max-- you'd have to have your guests transported). Also, the concern is the septic system. For more than 13 people, please let us know and we can discuss getting port-a-potties (an additional expense.)

Fire-pit: There is an outdoor fire-pit for your use, we will provide wood.

Fishing: The fishing is great along the Laughing Whitefish River, just outside your cabin door. Bass and pike are the most popular fish in the river.

Phone: Sorry, there is no landline at the cottage.

Privacy: Yes, there are 350 private acres for you and your family to enjoy, on the western edge of the Hiawatha National Forest.

Road: The few mile stretch of road entering the cabin itself is dirt mixed with some gravel. It is not ideal for a motorcycle.

Screened-in Porch: There is a screened-in porch at both cabins.Ideal for those buggy nights.

Swimming Beach: This is a riverfront property, we do not recommend that you swim here being that it is muddy. Lake Superior and inland lakes are a short 10-15 min away, great places to swim!

TV: There is one TV (with a DVD player) in the 2nd bedroom of the main cabin

Washer/Dryer: Sorry, it is on our wish list.

Wi-Fi: We are sorry; there is not Wi-Fi at this time.
