Property Description

We've fully furnished this beautiful, bright two-bedroom rental unit in the basement of our single-family home in St. Johns to comfortably accommodate up to 5 people. We set it up primarily to host our family and friends, and we're happy to extend the same hospitality to you. The apartment has its own private entrance, a full kitchen (fully stocked with a dishwasher, coffee maker, and everything you need for daily cooking, eating, baking, etc.), a full bathroom (stocked with linens and all of the basics - shampoo, soap, hair dryer, etc.), a cozy gas fireplace, its own washer and dryer, a dining room table and chairs, plenty of closet space, and basic cleaning supplies. Each of the bedrooms has a nice, real bed with linens, pillows and comforters (one full bed, one queen), and the living room couch includes a pull-out full bed with plenty of extra linens and pillows. We have kids of our own, and the apartment is very kid/family friendly. We even keep a pack-and-play and folding stroller for your use if you've got little ones.

You'll have full access to the rental unit with its private entrance, as well as shared access to our covered back deck with its picnic table and gas BBQ. We're also happy to share our bike shed, if you're bringing your bikes along.

We live just upstairs, but the rental unit is entirely separate from the rest of the house. Your level of interaction with us is entirely up to you. We're nearly always in town, generally home most evenings and away throughout the work/school day). We're used to hosting guests and tenants in the unit, and are frequent AirBnB/HomeAway guests ourselves when we travel. As such, we both highly respect your privacy and are available to share our recommendations for great Portland experiences if you'd like. Because we live upstairs, expect to hear the occasional pitter-patter of kids' feet above you, infrequent piano practice, and greetings from our very friendly Springer Spaniel, named Tess. Otherwise expect a quiet, private space to call home while you're here.

Three other things to feel good about while you're here:

1) The solar panels on our roof annually produce enough power to offset the power used in the rental unit. You get all of the comforts of on-the-grid living with the peace of knowing that you're using 100% renewable power.

2) We are happy to donate 10% of our proceeds from each guest stay to one of several local nonprofits doing great work in our community. You'll be able to learn about each of them, choose where the donation from your stay goes, and suggest others for us to check out.

3) The City of Portland requires short-term rental hosts to permit their spaces to make sure that the spaces are safe for you and to make sure that hosts collect our local lodging taxes. We're very happy to have our space fully permitted - our permit number is 15-238595-000-00-HO. If other hosts aren't including their permit number in their listing, they're not playing by the rules.
