Our home offers guests wonderful experiences vacationing on Lake Champlain. Each season is so picturesque with blue waters and the omniscient mountain scenery. Wake up to a beautiful sunrise, play all day in the clean refreshing water, and wind down your day taking in the evening sunset and sky scape view. You may even catch a double rainbow after a rain shower. Enjoy the abundance of wildlife and pretty flowers surrounding this sanctuary. You'll be in awe the moment you arrive! Our vacation home in the summer, is the perfect retreat or getaway. The days are long, warm and lazy, inviting you to kick back as you relax surrounded by the natural beauty of the land and water!
AUTUMN, is a remarkably awesome time to observe the beauty of the bold, colors of the leaves changing, and reflecting vibrantly along the lake! The eye-catching views are remarkable to see.
Inside the home, each room is configured and charmingly decorated, with every amenity for a very pleasant stay. The open concept living room, dining room and kitchen, offers cozy furnishings for relaxation, as you take in the breath-taking views outside.
KITCHEN /DINING The kitchen is well stocked with all the kitchenware you'll need to dine in. The kitchen is equipped with all stainless appliances: dishwasher, microwave, range, and refrigerator. A coffee bar, with a Kuerig coffee maker and electric tea kettle is conveniently located adjacent to the huge breakfast bar. The dining room, comfortably seats 6.
FAMILY GATHERING AREAS:
The stylish living room, has oversized furniture for relaxing, and a gas fire place, creating a calm and romantic ambiance. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the open-air porch, as you chill-out in one of the Adirondack chairs. Feel the gentle breeze and the warmth of the sun upon you.
The charming sun porch, is a quaint, cozy place, where you will want to spend hours lake and sky watching! The family entertainment room, provides stylish comfort, with mesmerizing views of the lake and mountains. This huge room is a great retreat for sharing laughs, playing games, watching movies, snuggling up with a good book or just "chilling."
BEDROOMS / BATHROOMS
The master bedroom, has a comfy queen size bed and a convenient master bath, with a large shower. The first guest bedroom, has a queen size bed and the second guest bedroom, has two twin beds. The two guest bedrooms, share a full bathroom with a tub/shower enclosure.
Take a few steps from the back porch onto the private beach for a dip in the pristine lake. Perhaps, you will enjoy casting your fishing line in one of the best fisheries in the nation, Lake Champlain of course! Water sports are big here on the lake. You can either bring your own craft or rent from the locals who deliver kayaks/canoes to the property (Hero's Welcome rentals). Maybe, you will prefer biking along the quiet back roads of Alburgh, where you'll find a variety of beautiful wild flowers, colorful birds, farm animals, and other pleasurable scenery.
If you like birds and wildlife, the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, is only a 3 minute drive away. For information regarding visitor activities, google U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Missisquoi, Vermont.
If adventure is what you are looking for, you can take a drive across the border to Montreal, Canada. The historic area of Montreal, known as "Old Montreal," offers rich culture and beautiful architecture(about a 55 minute drive from the home). While you are in Canada, take advantage of the shopping and excellent dinning. Don't forget your passport!
Another great city to visit is Burlington, Vermont. A trip to the Church Street Marketplace, is a fantastic way to spend a day shopping, dinning or just "People Watching." You will definitely want to experience the charm and culture of this unique city. Plan an evening strolling along the streets of Burlington, listening to free entertainment. Make sure you stop at the famous Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Shop for a treat. There are some unique micro-breweries you may find interesting as well! Not far from the marketplace, is the Burlington Waterfront Park. It is only a short walk to see the gorgeous view of Lake Champlain! It's best to catch the evening sunset over the glistening water and the mountains. You will definitely want to snap a few photographs for your vacation album. The ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, is both educational and fun for all ages. Next to the aquarium, is Vermont's largest floating restaurant and cruise ship. Eat a great meal and enjoy a scenic narrated cruise, for a rich history lesson. There are many wonderful shops and restaurants along the water too, so enjoy! The travel time to to Burlington, is only 45 minutes from the house.
There are many other attractions to see as well, like the famous Vermont Teddy Bear Company, Cabot Cheese Factory, the Vermont Statehouse, the Shelburne Museum and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory. As you are visit these great spots, you' ll want to map a route to see Vermont's historic covered bridges, especially during the fall foliage time. The New York State side of Lake Champlain is just minutes away. As you travel across the U.S. Rt. 2, Rouse's Point Bridge, look for a historical landmark, Fort Montgomery. Fort Montgomery, is the scene of a fierce Revolutionary War battle for control of the Hudson River. Entering into Rouses Point, you will find a quaint little village, with a few shops, a trendy Lakeside Coffee Shop, a wine/ liquor store, boat rentals, restaurants and more. The Amtrak Railway station is also located in Rouses Point.
If have additional time, you may want to check out Plattsburgh, NY and visit the Champlain Centre North Mall and area restaurants. Go ahead and surprise the family, with a ride on the Plattsburgh Ferry to Grand Isle, VT. The ferry, will connect you to scenic route US-2, through Vermont's Champlain Islands, heading back to Alburgh.
Additionally, some of the best attractions are located right in Alburgh and in the Champlain Island vicinity. The area has much to offer to visitors: 4 State Parks - Alburgh Dunes State Park, Burton Island State Park, Knight Island State Park and Grand Isle State Park. Many of the parks offer entertainment and other interesting attractions. Look for the free, local newspaper, "The Islander," for events. Lake Champlain also has lighthouses: Isle La Motte Light House, Windmill Point Light House and the Burlington Breakwater North Lighthouse. If you like mountain hiking, you've come to the right place. Vermont has 2 major hiking trails running along the Green Mountains. Check out information about the type of trails you are looking for.
Golfers, will appreciate a day of sunshine and greenery on the Alburgh Springs Golf Course. Have some lunch after a round of golf, at the Links on the Lake restaurant. St. Anne's Shrine, is a historical site where the French erected a Fort and Chapel on Isle La Motte. Saturday and Sunday services are held in the open church. Make sure to catch the majestic sunset there, before you leave! Grab some lawn chairs and kick back to listen to some of the local area bands who play music every Thursday evening, at South Hero' s Snow Farm Vineyard. There is no fee, so be sure to support the vineyard shop by purchasing a bottle of their famous wine. You can sip wine while you listen to the band play or take some wine home with you. One last thing...If you like to boogie to the music, wear comfortable shoes! There are plenty of local restaurants in the Islands that serve delicious meals. In North Hero; there's Shore Acres Inn, & the North Hero House. In South Hero; there is the Blue Paddle Bistro. Ruthcliff Lodge, is located in Isle La Motte, and the Ransome Bay Inn, is located in Alburgh. We enjoy taking an evening drive along St. Albans Bay, for a Creemee (frozen custard) followed by a stroll along the water's edge to view the brilliant sunsets there!
Vermont, is home to road biking and touring and also, mountain and fat biking! All the best trails and bicycling routes are highlighted on the Google search, "Plan Your Visit" (Vermont). Order a free travel guide to organize your actvities.
The Champlain Valley Fair, is a great attraction for visitors, and it's held annually at the end of August. The fair is a fun filled for everyone. The entertainment and attractions are the best!
On another note...Vermont, is famous for the World's Best Foliage. In the fall, our rates are lower, too! Enjoy apple picking, corn mazes, and autumn festivals! Don't leave the state without some delicious Vermont maple syrup to take home for the kids' pancakes!
