This sweet little hideaway on Vancouver Island is about a 45-minute drive north from the Nanaimo ferry and about 30 minutes south from Comox airport. Deep Bay is in an area known as Lighthouse Country where you can enjoy many activities in and around the area, whether it is spring, summer, fall or winter.
Your retreat is steps away from the ocean where at the bottom of the garden you can easily launch your kayaks, row boats, canoes and/or paddle boards. Next door is a boat launch and a marina for any larger boats, or maybe you will arrive by boat. Just across the bay is our sandy beach playground that triples in size depending on the tidal-moon cycle. There you can enjoy a swim, beach-comb, build castles, take photos, paint, or just chill with a good book. The area is famous for wild oysters and clams, so don’t forget your fishing license so you can have fun digging for your dinner. Close by and a pleasant walk leads to Vancouver Island University’s Deep Bay Marine Field Station, famous for their" High Tea By The Sea" and their Grey Whale exhibit. Fishing for salmon & cod is but a few steps away where, if you don’t have a boat, Van Isle charters await. You have enchanting walking/hiking & biking trails close by awaiting your discovery. Check out the web site "vancouverislandwalkhikebike" for some details on where to find these trails. A visit to the famous Horne Lake Caves is a half-hour drive inland. The Pacific Rainforest Adventure Tours located in Parksville is a delightful way to learn and explore this magical island. Numerous unique and artistic treasure stores a-wait when you take an extravaganza adventure into Bowser, Coombs, & Qualicum Beach. The Wildlife Recovery Center and Parrot Rescue Sanctuary are all in a day’s adventure, where you can visit and share some love. Heading north and guarding over us all is the majestic Mount Washington where hikers, bikers and photographers are free to wander her range when her snow cloak has melted; and winter months, you have all the winter delights to explore and enjoy. At the end of the day, right next door is our local licensed café/store/launderette , the "Ship & Shore" where it is claimed “the best fish and chips” & burgers can be enjoyed; or if preferred, start the day with coffee and a full breakfast. Enjoy an early morning or evening stroll around our marina docks as fishermen & sailors alike both busy themselves with their tasks. The ever hopeful seals and otters love to hang around in hopes of easy morsels.
With gentle waves lapping at the bottom of the garden and vibrant mesmerizing sunsets setting for the day, under the trees lie hammocks allowing for quiet contemplation and reflection. As darkness descends, clear skies allow the heavens to twinkle and wink at us. Down below, as Deep Bay quietens, and depending on the fire hazard, an open pit fire can be enjoyed while listening to the sounds around you of wildlife calling, and the echo of conversations carried on the wind.
Just a little tasting of what can be enjoyed while staying at this sweet retreat in charming Deep Bay.+ More
