Banff, Alberta

The largest town in Banff National Park (a National World Heritage Site in Alberta's Rockies), Banff is famous for having the highest elevation in all of Canada at 1,463 meters, or 4800 feet. This beautiful town shares its great height with the many mountains that surround it -- including Mount Rundle, Sulphur Mountain, Mount Norquay, and Cascade Mountain.

Banff is named after a town in Aberdeen Scotland. It has been a popular travel destination for tourists from all over the world since 1887, when the Banff Springs Hotel was built there.

What's So Great About Banff?

Besides the truly glorious scenery that the many mountains surrounding Banff deliver, Banff is an ideal place to roam. In June 2008, Banff built a bus system, and called it "Roam." Before Roam was built, you had to rent a car to get to such hotspots as the Tunnel Mountain, Banff Springs Hotel, and Banff Gondola. Now, Roam offers a convenient, environmentally-conscious alternative. The Roam buses are, in fact, hybrid Nova buses.

Banff is also an ideal vacation spot if you're looking for rest and relaxation. It features, for example, the extremely popular Banff Upper Hot Springs. While relaxing in an outdoor hot pool, you can soak in the view of Mount Rundle, which is right across the valley.

Celebrity Hotspot!

Celebrities who enjoy Banff include of John Cleese, Dame Edna, Bob Newhart, Martin Short and Kelsey Grammar. So, besides Roaming and relaxing, you can search for the stars as well. The best in Canadian arts and culture are awarded at the Banff World Television Festival, Banff Mountain Film Festival, and Rocky Mountain Music Festival.
