Perfect Stay, Part II
Kitchen- cooking and eating was probably the best part of the trip, which was made possible by the very nice kitchen that Matthew had supplied very well. We didn’t know what to expect so we brought plastic utensils and paper bowls and plates… there was absolutely no need for that. There are enough plates, bowls, cups, spoons, knives and folks for a large group. I think I saw some wine glasses as well. There were 2 frying pans and various sizes of pots enough to cook an entire meal. The refrigerator was clean and big- the fridge for some reason had trouble staying cool but it was enough to keep our food from spoiling. The freezer worked well and had two ice trays. Almost forgot, there are two baking pans, spray on oil, and an oven that works very well; part of the group had a lot of fun baking. Patio and Grill- the patio had a nice wooden table (with chairs available in the shed), which we did not have an opportunity to use because the group wanted to dine inside. The propane grill was clean and did the job perfectly. It was honestly a bit small for my group because we were cooking a lot of meat but it should be sufficient to grill about 6 large steaks at a time Location- There is a liquor store that is about a block away and a marina where you can rent boats and jet skis that is about 10 minutes away, walking. The Village is about 10 to 15 minutes driving distance with weekend traffic on the road and the big plaza with Vons and Starbucks is about 20 minutes away during the day time… the traffic isn’t so bad but it is the mountain and you are not driving on a four-lane highway. Overall, the location was perfect. Security Deposit- this is where my group and I disagreed a little. Matthew, in the rental contract and the posted rules inside the house, makes it very clear on how to receive a full refund of your security deposit. For example, go throw away your trash at the centralized dump site (due to city regulation, not due to Matthew’s lack of care for his guests), return furniture to original location (and I’m sure he does not mean to the exact centimeter), strip bed linens and pillow cases and collect them in the master bedroom (I was actually not able to find the laundry basket in the master bedroom that was mentioned), etc. These aren’t crazy demands. And even if they were, Matthew does not hide them from his guests; he is very forthright about them so you can either agree to the rate offered with the set of rules and guidelines
