Bring your dog!
We stayed here over a sweltering weekend in July. Our pros: * #1- Dog friendly with an enclosed yard with doggie door! Hard to come by. * The cabin was clean, comfortable and fairly well stocked and maintained. We had all we needed to cook and eat meals. Plentiful towels, soap and even some drinking water. * Comfy beds and living room seating. * There's a small store a couple blocks away and the Village and lake are within easy and quick driving distance. * We really liked the cabin itself. It truly is both "cozy & spacious"! Love the wood floor in the living room and nice fireplace. * Gabby was helpful and very quick to respond to emails. Our cons: * Sugarloaf itself is slightly sketchy. A LOT of mean, barky dogs behind the fences of almost every house on some streets. Made walking the dog feel like a gauntlet of doggy aggression and some stare downs by their sullen-faced owners. owners. * It was in the 90's and the small ceiling fan downstairs was mostly ineffective so we scrounged around and thankfully found a couple of fans that we moved up to the bedrooms for sleeping. (They were in a closet that we discovered later was meant to be locked but was thankfully left open because otherwise the temperature would probably have been intolerable.) Many of the village shops and restaurants were struggling to beat the heat, we tried 3 restaurants before finding one with reasonable temperature and space for us. So much for escaping the LA heat! * The sheets in the bunkbeds were flannel. We couldn't find anything else so our poor kid had to sleep on them in that heat. * There were a lot of air freshening devices throughout the cabin. Easy to put outside during our stay. * Lighting was not great. A couple of burned out light bulbs and no light source in living room. * Although you pay a $50 cleaning fee, you are required to wash and put away all dishes (no dishwasher) and take all your garbage with you! It may seem a bit pricey considering the cons, but if you have a dog it is definitely worth it! We would return when the temperatures are more reasonable!
